New member, new 4R.
Hi guys, just picked up my first 4Runner. I've been in the sports car game for a while (95 M3, 04 S2k, 06 WRX, 99 M3..), and got tired of it, so I figured I'd pick up one of my favorite SUVs. I was originally looking for a 4x4, but when I found this one the price was right, and it was in awesome condition. So I picked up this '99 Limited with 206 on the clock for $5,600. No rust, the interior is near-mint, and the exterior looks like a 50,000 mile car. Maintenance records, everything up to date. It's great! Even with the abysmal gas mileage it's still cheaper to run than the M3 it replaces. Plus, not having repairs every month is easier on the budget, too! The 4x4 would have been nice to have, but we don't get too much weather here in OKC to necessitate it, and I won't be going off-road, so for now the 2x4 will do alright. Maybe in a few years I'll hand it down to one of my brothers who needs some reliable transportation. Onto the pics!
Giving it a once over before buying it:
Bringing it home:
At my shop; it's still an import!
May have to find a steering wheel cover that matches better..
It did need new tires, so I went with the Yokohama A/T-S.
The antenna was borked, and I'm not a fan of tall whip antennas, so I found the stubbiest stubby antenna possible:
The radio actually has less static now with that 4" bolt in there snug.
Had to get something for the hitch. Not so much so that I can pull someone else out of being stuck, but if I get stuck snow I want there to be a good place to hook on to! Put a 20" recovery strap in the compartment in the back.
Had a tranny cooler sitting around, so went ahead and mounted that up. Still need to run lines to it, but I don't think I'm in danger of the strawberry milk shake. The trans was recently serviced, and it shifts just fine. Still, preventative maintenance beats costly repairs.
It's quite the adjustment going from a tricked out M3 to this, but I'm liking it!
For reference:
~original[/IMG]
I'm debating on taking the running boards off. I'm tall, I don't need them, and they get in the way more than anything else..
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Buyer's Guide thread, it was a great resource!

Thanks man! That sticky has just about as much info as anyone looking at one of these could ever need. The only question I've got is whether or not the trans cooler I've got mounted up is in a good place, and big enough. But that's in the appropriate thread. ;)

Welcome! And yes, I would move that tranny cooler to where the fan can pull air through it better, but I don't think it's anything you have to worry about immediately.

Quality first post man. Very nice looking truck. Very clean.
I too dumped a very needy German...03 A4 Avant 1.8T Quattro. It was insane to keep the thing running.
Welcome!

Oh man, that 1.8 motor is a PITA. I've got bent valves all over the place from those things breaking timing belts. I don't blame you for dumping it; you couldn't pay me to own an Audi [outside factory warranty].

The 1.8T Audi B6 is a terrible vehicle, a friend has one. Nothing is right on that car except the looks, which is quite good, as most Audis are.
OP, also new to T4R, about 2 months now. Still got the M car though, never selling it. It always makes me smile.

That antenna is ghetto. Not a fan of whip antenna's either, but a bolt is really ghetto. A limited should have a power antenna right? Assuming the motor is still in it and works you can get a new antenna off ebay for 20 bucks or less.
