Transfer Case Actuator Motor is SHOT!!!

Thanks for looking. My mechanic, (trusted), informed me that my actuator motor is junk. It is going to be costly! Do I trust a salvage yard find to save some money, or just go with new? It's pointless to have 4WD, and not beable to use it, as well as the resale value is tanked. Anyone out there had to replace theirs, that can share their experiences? I need the part number, so I can see if I can locate a discounted one, if possible. Does the transfer case need to be pulled to install the actuator motor? How many hours are needed, etc? It sure was easier with my '88, when I just locked the hubs and engaged the transfer case with a lever.

Not knowing what you have doesn't help the situation.

what year and model 4runner do you have?

Are you looking for this Motor? This was removed from a 97 or 98, I don't remember. This transfer case has less than 25K. The case has been sitting for years. I don't even know if the 4WD was engaged on this truck. So I'd assume the actuator motor is fine.

You have a mechanical 4wd select. It should would unless your front diff is not locking up.

Just learned I have the same issue...

And mine is also a '99 Ltd...shocker.

Anyone have good used ones for sale, or can point me in a direction that won't run the $2000 I'm looking at to replace this?

Thanks so much...love this informative site.

I need to make a correction.

The 99 limited's and newer 4runners have an electrically controlled transfer case.

There is a mechanical lever but it pushes a switch on the transfer case that operates the electric actuator.

There is a direct connection between the lever and the hi neutral low gears.

Sorry for the confusion.
