Welp, the problem could be that I'm just realizing the other skids were 3/16, not 3/8... they probably weigh nearly twice as much as 1/8 skids because they're twice as thick
pic related!

Changed the rear upper and lower control arm bushings, and panhard bar bushings with Whiteline poly bushings on my non-lifted ‘02 today.
I’ve been trying to narrow down the wiggly feel I get when driving on grooved concrete sections of the freeway. Also felt like I had bump steer when braking on bumpy surfaces. It just always seemed like a front end issue. Tried about everything I could think of since purchasing the vehicle two years ago. New front and rear brakes (maybe sticking caliper?), poly rack bushings, adjusted rack guide screw, poly front and rear sway bar bushings, new shocks all around, new rear springs, new Cooper AT3 4S tires, new OEM lower ball joints, and finally an alignment! Everything was an improvement, but nothing corrected the real problem. Well, finally found the culprit today! The rear control arm and track bar bushings! They looked fine during visual (on car) inspection, but not so good when off. It’s an amazing improvement. Like driving a brand new car now, and the poly bushings don’t seem any more harsh riding than before. Smooth, yet firm!

How difficult was the replacement?

Wasn’t bad at all taking the arms off and re-installing. I don’t have a press, so getting the old bushings out of the lower arms took removing the rubber by heating the outer part of the arm with a propane torch, then used a two jaw puller to push out the rubber. Then sliced the remaining metal sleeve with a hack saw to make a relief and then knocked it out with a chisel. Was careful not to score the inside of the arm, though I don’t know if it would matter much if I had, since the outer portion of the bushing doesn’t move during operation. The first one took the longest. After that the rest went quick. The upper arm bushings and panhard bushings don’t have the metal sleeve. They just pushed out using the puller. Very easy for all of those. With my son’s help, the whole job took maybe 2-3 hours.

Installed the front sway bar bushings... What a f****** mess to install as every single bolt is rusty and both bolts on the passenger side holding in the bracket sheared off. I'm glad I ordered new hardware for the brackets.
Driving it with the new bushings, I could immediately tell the difference. I can corner with confidence now and it's a much stable ride. These are Energy Suspension Bushings and they are great! I didn't have time for the end link bushings so thats another day

on my new to me 2000, new airbox ( used) and air filter, original was cracked, cleaned maf, replaced PCV and grommet new front sway inks, one was broken, replaced one side light and put in LED's on both. DRL delete. From my 2001 I swaped my 6 month old battery and swaped the tail lights and put in LED brake and back up bulbs ( put the 2001 tail lights on the 2000, and 2000 on 2001,2001 ones look better)
few days ago order a Denso radiator, toyota thermostat, toyota LBJ's., magnafine trans filter. But might be a few weeks b4 I can get to install all that. Gonna do a tranny flush at the time. ( timmy style)
With wheels off today I noticed so I ordered OTRE's also orderd NGK wire set, new plugs., fuel filter and all 3 drive belts and new fog light bulbs, one was burned out.
Tomorrow gonna inspect rear brakes and then adjust flush and bleed brakes, ( hope this cures my spongy pedal) swap my semi new KO2's from the 2001 and these older geolanders to the 2001
tuesday or wednesday plan to put the 2001 up for sale.

Swapped driver and passenger seat cushions. What a difference. Now I’ll look for a junkyard passenger cushion.
