Camp/Tent Trailer, Let See 'Em!!!

After I install the lift on the 4Runner this week and give my wife's car a little love; I am going to start looking for a camp trailer.

Post up some pics. Store bought and homemade!

A great place to start looking is on ExPo Expedition Trailers

If you are going to build, think long flat leaf springs. The longer and flatter the spring the smoother the ride (if of a proper weight rating).

Here is another great place to get ideas http://pirate4x4.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=30 . The guys on Pirate do some extreme things/builds.

Trailer suspensions don't really "Flex" as we think of it. It does take up the trail shock.

Flex on a 4 wheel rig (your 4runner) happens due to the diagonally opposing wheels. (compression of diagonally opposing wheels and droop of the other two)

Mikenchell is a great site. I have been considering building a tear drop for years, I just have nowhere to put it! A lot of them are based on cheap HarborFreight trailers.

Last year I bought a trailer for $50. It would have been perfect to start building on but instead I extended it to 8ft and put my 9ft fishing boat on it.

Mine is built on a custom frame with a 3500# axle. It is built tough and I have ~20,000 miles on it. I have dragged it down some rough trails. I'm not talking level 7 rock crawling but 3-5.

Come on... you can share. I won't tell anyone... (I'd offer "I'll show you mine if you show me yours", but I don't have one, yet.)

I'm not sure what you're looking for....an off-road trailer...or just light camping with the family??

I use a 98 Flagstaff for light camping:

It sleeps 6 people, and has a indoor/outdoor burner for cooking duties. (I prefer using the fire)

I really like the expedition trailers with roof top tents. I think it would be very useful for me. Anyone got anymore?

Here is the camping trailer I've been working on. I won't go into a lot of detail, the build thread has all the information on the build.

Build Thread: My Camping Trailer Project - YotaTech Forums

I've built it mainly using stuff I had around. It's not done yet, but it's getting close!

Started with this...

And this is how it looks right now.
