sport edition bucket seats swap.
hey guys i've tried searching in this forums and also in the yotatech and couldn't find much info on swapping out the seats of my 3rd gen for something more comfortable. i have the sr5 sport edition with bucket seats and they are the most uncomfortable seats ever i've been getting lower back pains as soon as i get in my truck the pain in unbearable i really need to change them for something better before i have to get pills for back pain because im not getting rid of my 4runner lol... so ive read about scion seats and celica seats but havent seen any writeups or many pics. can anyone please tell me of any other seats that are bolt on or with minor mods that will fit the 4runner 3rd gen please.

I have seen a number of threads asking this same question, and I don't remember seeing any definitive answers. The only swaps I can remember required some fab work to make them fit.
I would just hit up a junk yard and start looking for similar seats. Take some measurements, and give something a try.

yeah i've been looking and no one has a real answer i really dont mind doing the mods to fit the rails or welding them... looks like ill have to find the most comfortable and then just modify the rails to fit. i just didnt want to have to go through all that, i wanted a straight bolt on. i've hear the celica fits but i dont know what years lol.

I'm swapping Toyota Matrix seats into mine at the moment. It took me about 4 days, to create and install the brackets for just the passenger side. But my god they are so much more comfortable.

I'm not sure of any direct fit swaps, but a few people from TTORA have swapped scion seats in their Tacomas. I doubt the mounts are identical between 4Runners and Tacomas, but these guys had to modify their frame rails anyway.
If you're comfortable with a grinder and welder, this might help:
Scion XB seats in a '00 Tacoma. - TTORA Forum
Somebody in that thread mentioned 99-04 Celica seats, but I'm not sure if that applies to 4Runners.

What is it that you find uncomfortable about the seats?
On my 1st gen I made a little "Spacer" if you will, to raise the back 2 mounting points about an inch and a half, it made a huge difference in the angle I was sitting at, and was QUITE comfortable.

i think its the seating position and also probably padding foam missing. my lower back just kills me no matter how i try to sit. i have the adjustable lumbar support and the height adjuster and no matter how i try to adjust it i still have the back pain. i may just have to throw a pillow in there lol

This post sounds exactly like the beginning of my build thread. On the way home from picking up the Runner my wife and I both had bad lower back pain from our 02 sport seats. As soon as I got home I ordered some Corbeau seats and brackets from Racingseatsusa.com
HUUUGGE improvement. My stock seats have been sitting in the garage ever since. I can drive endlessly now with no back pain.

I have the same problem with mine. I have been toying with throwing Sequoia seats in mine, as they are the most comfortable Toyota seats I have found. I'm planning on it being a ton of work to make fit correctly, but it will definitely be worth it.
I had a buddy put 07 Tacoma seats in his 99 Tacoma, and he says it has been a big improvement. Maybe it would be the same way if we put some 4th gen seats in our rigs.

I think you can use just about any seats with some slight modification. Take the rails off the seats and put the stock rails on the new seat you want to put in. My Dad has a 1976 toyota chinook and he put black acura integra seats in it. He had to get a peice welded at a muffler shop but was only like $20

I would advise agaisnt using Scion seats. The seats in my 04 xB were not comfy, the bolsters wore out quickly (the foam not the cloth) and offered zero lumbar support. I was looking at getting some Bride or Recaros when it got totaled. Any drive over two hours and my back was killing me. Im 5'11" ad 195, so I am not a huge dude, so the seats should not have worn out that fast.
