A few thread questions wrapped into one...

First I just want to say that I appreciate all the information on this website, as it has helped me in more ways than one.

Generally I would search for a long time and do tons of research, but I'm feeling particularly lazy this Saturday evening and just want to get straight to the point.

My first question is concerning gears. I am currently running 285/75/r1's with the stock gears. When I am going on long trips, anytime I go over the slightest hill my truck downshifts sometimes all the way to 5,xxx rpm's. I feel like putting longer gears (4.88's or so) would help out on longer trips, I'm not looking for 25+ mpg, but I def want to be able to cruise at lower rpm's and not have to worry about down shifting every 30 seconds. So basically, for those of you running 285's with longer gears, what are some good brands/places to look before ordering them. Which brings me to my next topic/question.

Headers/exhausts. I know the 2001 4-runner's have 2 cats and 2 or 3 02 sensors, however I am not too savvy on the result of removing one of these cats or replacing them with a high flow cat. I want to replace the exhaust, not only for personal preference, but also because there is always a slight bump in power when you allow your engine to breath more. So I guess my question is, what options are out there when it comes to high-flow cats, and exhausts?

My third and final question involves superchargers. I have read a lot on them, and I am def interested in doing this one day, but what are some reputable supercharger kits that are out there.

Thank you for any responses, the more information you bring to the table the better, sorry for my laziness.

Thanks,

Cpl Fitzpatrick

For gears go with 4.88's and people have great luck with Drivetrain Specialists East Coast Gear Supply. Otherwise people typically like Yukon and Nitro gears.

Not too sure on the exhaust system, but TRD has a great sounding catback system.

For the superchargers the only option is TRD. I'd aim for the black 2nd gen, but there is nothing wrong with a 1st gen.

Hey, I appreciate the response. I'm going to start looking into some gears first then move onto the exhaust/header portion if I ever get some other opinions. I'm basically trying to free up as much HP as possible...I'm not trying to make a race car by any means, but I do plan on doing a lot of wheeling this summer, so the more power the better.
