No that wasn't the one I used, his name was mykeyless. The fob is exactly the same as the one in your link though, that one is a fair bit cheaper as well. His reviews are good enough to where I might try that one. The one I got was right at $30 all said and done.

Here is the end results of the key fob case I purchased from the above website. They didnt have the panic button or the window button cutout so I did my own modifications.

Here is my quick fix that I described previously, it was quick and dirty. One of these days I will need to re-wrap it.

Busted Key Fob

Hey guys, if you haven't taken care of your key fobs I have another possible solution. Mine had the same problem of the broken plastic that originally held the chain. I looked around at auto zone and oreilly's and found a small square key fob surround (at autozone). It was much smaller than my key fob so when I eventually stretched it over the sides it made a nice, tight fit. The new case was a bit clunky when I put it directly on my keychain so I found a sweet little blinded out dollar sign keychain at oreilly's. I took off the ugly dollar sign and put it on my keys. It has held up for about two months now, it's not too big and bulky in my pocket, and it altogether cost me less than 10 dollars. I hope this helps out someone. I'll try and post pics later. This iPad apparently doesn't allow it.

Broken Key FOB

I just recently motivated myself to search for a way to fix the remote fob for my '96 4Runner and came across this thread... I doubt anyone is still paying attention to this thread, but just in case...

I found this on Amazon that looks like it would be very useful for repairing a broken fob...Amazon.com: The Broken Car Remote Case Repair Solution: Car Electronics

Not wanting to pay the shipping -- I simply fashioned my own. I used picture hanging wire and basically looped it around one side of the fob (carefully pushing the 'wire' into the channel) then put the fob back together normally...needed to apply a little more pressure due to the addition of the wire in the channel surrounding the key fob. After tightening the fob screw, I now have a functional remote again (just remember to leave a loop exposed that is large enough to get a key ring into it). Sorry, I don't have a picture right now. If anyone's interested, let me know and I'll upload a picture.

After 30 min of searching and googling, I found this thread. Mine fob's "ring hole" broke. I couldn't find a replacement cover anywhere.

Yeah, easiest way of fixing this with the RS3000 system is to get a new remote from mykeylessentry on ebay. I got one and it works great. It doesn't look as "stylish" as the original but at least it can withstand a drop, and it's only $15.

I drilled a fishline sized hole through the keyfob and then went to a jewelers shop. Bought a thin lined key chain attachment that has worked ever since.

Thumbs up

If your fob is the style jij posted above (my 2002's is) you can get a replacement case from Autozone made by Dorman.

They don't make one for the 4Runner (that I can find on their website - www.MyKeylessRemote.com) but they do make one for a 2002-2006 Camry that is identical except for the small inner ridge on the bottom of the fob. Part # 13614, it's $15.

You will need to Dremel away the ridge on the inside back cover where the battery holder is attached to the circuit board (it will be obvious to you once you put the circuit board in the new back cover) but that only takes about 5 seconds.

They even had the button battery (CR 2016) so in 3 minutes I was all set with a brand new fob.

I got this tip from Mountain in another thread but tought I'd post here as so many are asking.

Resurrecting this old thread to post this link:

2 New Replacement Keyless Entry Remote Shell Pad Glass Case Key Fob Fix Repair | eBay

I just got mine in and they were a direct swap over, no modding needed. They look almost identical to the factory one and were $13 for a pair. Swap over was less than 30 seconds and they work great.

I got my replacement three button remote from wireless-now on ebay two years ago, and it works perfectly.

Looks like they are even cheaper now ($19.95 w/ free shipping) and the empty shells are $8.95/ea or two for $13.95.

For anyone still looking for a fix on this issue, I made a case for the Land Cruiser guys that should work on the 4Runner fobs as well.

Check out this thread on 'mud for more info on it and see the video link below as well.
