Synthetic Winch Rope Suggestions...
I just installed a XRC8 Smittybuilt winch on my rig. What are some good lines that are in the right pull weight range, and what is a good length? I just dont want to go too big b/c my control box mounts to the top and I dont want it getting to close to that with a rock guard on the end of it.
Thanks!

And didn't your winch come with either steel or synthetic rope? Mine came with 94' of steel.

Thanks for the write-up on sealing the solenoid, def do that here very soon.
And I bought it from a friend for a decent price, he wants his 16K synthetic line back. It is rather worn so I wouldnt mind a nice new 12k line that is around 80ft. I just see that a lot of sites list the dia. of the line and not the pulling capacity. What diameter will pull 12k?

I got the Amsteel Blue 5/16th 100ft length in green. depending on the size of the drum on the winch this is a good length.

I run 80' of 3/8" line from either Viking Offroad or Masterpull. I also carry a 50' extension from Viking.
Sierra Expeditions usually has great prices on the Viking line.

Most lines sold are Amsteel Blue ( there is a big weight difference between Amsteel and Amsteel Blue). I run 100' of 3/8" Tech-12 ( it handles heat better and is a little stronger). Check eBay for a bulk piece and splice the thimbles on the ends yourself. It can save some cash. It's a cool skill to learn too.

Thanks Gerdo! My friend that sold the winch to me said that he would give me a line that needed to be spliced and re-woven due to some fraying near the loop... maybe I'll just go that route and learn some sweet boy scout knotting techniques!

Free always sounds good. I don't get where they get off charging as much as they do for the synthetic stuff. It's rape.

I got a trail gear synthetic line in 3/8" and 75' long. Its a 18K line. I picked it up right when they came out with them for $159 I believe. They have gone up to $219 now... they always have 10% sales so you could probably get it for right around $200. Its done what it needs to. I like it way better than the old steel cable I had on my winch.

If money is not a concern I would have got a masterpull superline XD The full sheath is a great idea!, but too rich for my blood
