Outside temp gauge not reading right

Hey guys,

My 2002 sr5 has the outside temp/compass on rear view mirror and the temp reading is way off. The compass works fine but about a year ago we had a freeze and the temp started posting numbers that are about 10-40 degrees off. Can anyone tell me where the sensor is located and if I should replace it or try cleaning it? Thanks in advance

somewhere in the front grill area, I think. Sorry I know thats not very helpful, but I have zero hands on experience with the temp gauge but have read a little about it. (my '96 doesn't have it)

you have an after market mirror if not mistaken. Type "mirror temp sensor" in the top google search bar right up there ^^ and see if anything pops up. Im sure you can find someone with the same mirror and maybe they have some detailed pics

look on the back side of the plastic lower valance. In the center you should find a wire going to an odd looking plastic thing clipped to the plastic. I know not very descriptive but if you look around you will find it. No idea if there is any way to calibrate the temp though.
