Pre purchase advice

New to the forum advice would be much appreciated. Looking at a 02 sport with 126k. Body in great overall shape. PO hit a deer, not a bad hit but required new headlights, grill and bumper. Looks to have an external transmission cooler installed. Usual options including moon roof. Trans shifts well and motor starts on a cold start. Biggest flaw I can find is the drivers area carpet where the drivers left foot would rest is worn threw. AC serpentine belt changed last month an t belt done at 100k. Has oversized bf goodrich's so you can feel them as you drive.

100 dollar question, what would a fair price be and is the worn carpet in drivers area a sign of anything other than worn carpet from driver's foot? Also anything else I should be looking at

Thanks in advance

3rd Gen 4Runner Buyer's Guide

I paid $7700 for a 2001 sr5 with 124. Should have paid 7200. Oops.

I'd buy it. Prices seem to fluctuate depending on your geographical location. Are you looking at a 2 wheel or 4 wheel?

I have an '02 sport that I've owned since '04. My issues are flaking clear coat, wore drivers side floor mat and it isn't 4 wheel drive!

Where are you located? That also plays a part. How's the exterior? Rust?

Thanks for the quick replies. It is a 4wd, he is asking 8.5k, I think he would take 8. Does that seem fair? Looking at dealer prices it appears to be.

PA, only visible rust is on the hitch, owner said he would be happy for me to take to a mechanic to look over b/f purchasing.

Seems like a fair price. Title clear? Automatic? One thing that would worry me is that the damage was in the front. Can you be sure that there was no radiator damage?

Have you gotten underneath it?

title is clean, damage does not show on carfax. I have not gotten under the truck yet, I will be doing so tomorrow. If I dont see any red flags will probably ask if I can put a deposit down and bring to mechanic.

If the front end hit wasn't too bad it sounds like it's priced fair. Look it over good though, make sure the ends of the frame are straight, crawl all the way under it looking for rust. I'm in PA too, it's hard to find them rust free here. If you're near Philly, hit me up. I'd be happy to go look at it with you if you want.

yeah i agree check the frame, radiator and all those little fun parts. sounds like a decent price.
also check all the crush zones, we looked at one recently for my wife and all though car fax was clean I noticed the rear crush zones were not right. Just something I like to check.
