Not exactly what you should believe. You shouldn't consider a local dealer's info as being "Toyota's word". Dealers haven't had to deal with these in nearly 20 years.

1999 is a totally different system(RS3200), although for some reason I've seen some 1999s with the RS3000 installed.

my 97 Limited is black. intermittently it won't chirp but I hear a click from fuse box (single or double click, but no chirp). seems mor frequent when its cold. then on occasion I get no response (not even a click) when turning key to start position. 4 or 5 tries and all of a sudden it fires right up. new battery and starter, clean terminals. I am starting to think the no start and no chirp are related problems. anyone else experience this?

Could be the contacts on the back of the key as well. I had nothing when my ignition connector was warn badly in the start position. Especially worth checking if the rig has higher mileage on it. >200k as mine went at about 240k.

Hello, I'm looking to get a remote for my '98 Limited. Do you have a link as to where you got yours?

I couldn't get any of the aftermarket fobs to work on my '97. Ended up getting one off of eBay that was the OEM circuit board in an aftermarket case. I'd suggest trying to find a used OEM one based on my experience.

I have a 2000, and it came with the Black fob. Mine is rectangular (which is OEM), not round. Mines broken, so I have to carry it with me when I have to open the truck.

2002 4runner SR5 VIP Security System

I own a 2002 4runner SR5. Does anyone know if I can buy the rs3000 or rs3200 security system and will it work so that way I can use a key fob to lock and unlock the 4runner?

I bought an aftermarket from Amazon for the 97 limited. It worked and had a longer range than OEM. When I tried to get the same unit as a second spare for my 97 SR5 it was not available and the ones that said they were for my 97 with matching fcc numbers would not program. I ended sending it back for a second try and it wouldn’t program either. Ended up getting an OEM from eBay.

Autozone has a fob tester and the aftermarket behaved way different than the OEM.
