I don't tow anything with the Porsche, it was a factory option.
Window sticker 1
Window sticker 2
With that said it's rated to tow 7700 lbs, which isn't too shabby.
I don't have to park the Cayenne at an angle - I just had it drying after getting detailed (carpets shampooed etc) and what you can't see behind the Porsche is a stack of drag tires I had to avoid. ... so of course, my wife gets rear-ended two days later.
re: the 4runner see the Carfax linked above - it's clean, or so I think. In CO we have ridiculous premiums on 4wds and '98s regularly go for $4500-9000.

I also live in Colorado and called him on this about two weeks ago. the issue that you have not mentioned was the engine knock when it is cold. maybe he didnt tell you anout it or he fixed it but he talked alot about it with me. Could just be a sticky lifter but when I talked to my good friend who runs some repair stations here in Colorado, he mentioned something about an oil sending unit and if it goes there is no warning and a pretty much toasted engine. He told me to pass on it for sure or have him look at it.
I agree 3700 is a great deal, but you can find one with no issues for just a bit more. at least major issues

7700 is impressive. Driving that each day must make your wife smile something big. It is a real nice car.

So this is a salvaged title correct?
He may be able to clear it up but it was declared salvaged and has no airbags.
$2000 max. That is my vote. These trucks have enough problems over 150k miles, the wreck will only make them worse.

I agree completely assuming salvage title.
Still have it inspected before you put any money down.
Nice Porsche!

Not a salvage title, it's clear.

If its not a salvage title then what did he have to work out with the DMV?
I am wondering if it has -ever- been declared totalled.
Good luck. I would be concerned about the engine knock.

He needs to get a new title issued in his name as he never titled it when he bought it from the previous owner. Agreed yes sketchy but if he can't get this figured out and a clear title issued I will walk away. I'm not super concerned about engine knock - worst case it's fresh engine time and a TRD supercharger or maybe a turbocharger.

I like your optimism. Talk him down and get it!
This thing better be 4wd for all this trouble.

Definitely 4wd, I tested it and it worked, there's very little point in 2wd SUVs in Colorado. :P Also has the elocker etc.
Looked around and found a 100k mile 5VZ-FE local for about $1k, I'm sure there's better deals out there too. I'll have a shop check the truck out and do a PPI and make sure nothing's catastrophically bent.
Doesn't look like anyone's really doing V8 swaps into these things - too new, or too much love for the Toyota V6?

So I bought it. It's no beauty queen but it could be in far worse shape -
Got a set of airbags last night that I'll be putting in as I tend to a few other things. Runs just fine, definitely a ticking sound when it's cold but it goes away when warm. I hear more belt noise than anything.
Looks like there's a lot of posts about ticking noises on here, so I'll change the oil, check the torque on the spark plugs, and run some Seafoam through a vacuum line and see how things look from there.

So the truck's doing really well. Airbags are installed - dash light, off! I topped up the brake fluid reservoir with DOT-3 and, what do you know - other dash light, off!
Also took it to the emissions testing facility today, they threw it on the dyno, and then they pulled it off very quickly... I was concerned as I was thinking it might have been running so rich that it failed the test just that quickly, but no - it just passed that quickly!
So in spite of being a little rough around the edges, this thing's shaping up quite nicely. Everything works - AC, heat, all windows including the rear glass and the sunroof, it starts without hesitation, the radio even sounds decent.
I went through the service history on it last night and found that brakes have all been done within 15k (although there's still a little pulsing in the front), and suspension and steering work was also done within the past 30k miles. It drives really, really well. Every time I drive it I'm shocked at how quiet and rattle-free this 176k Toyota with an accident on it is. Moreover, I'm pretty sure all manufacturers should be held to Toyota's switch-gear standards... The turn signal has such a satisfying feel that neither my Porsche or Pontiac come close to replicating.
It makes some noise when I start it but it gradually quiets and runs just fine. Considering it passed emissions I feel pretty good about where things sit.
I do have one problem, though - the front-right turn signal doesn't work (and I get double-time blinks when I engage the right side.) I need to look into where things are wrong; where would you guys start - new bulb, and then chase down wiring? Thanks.

Check the bulb first. If that doesn't work grab a test light and make sure you have power to the socket. If not, you are looking at chasing the wiring and seeing if their a short somewhere. Being that it hasn't blown the fuse for the turn signals, I would say it is most likely just a bulb, as a shorted wire will usually blow a fuse.

One of the harness wires has pulled out of the back of the plug that goes into the back of the turn signal receptacle. I fought unsuccessfully with dismantling the plug yesterday and i would like to get a new plug with pigtails and splice it into the harness w/ solder and heat shrink... Does anyone sell the plug with a pigtail, or should I go chop one off of a parting-out truck? Thanks.
