help with driveshaft removal

So if any of you were apart of the earlier thread you know the .. sad.. story. I had a driveshaft pop out (the driveshaft slipped and was in its two pieces) i had to remove the rear (bolted to 3rd member) u joint and then slide the two pieces back together.. it went back in and i have realized i put it back in "out of phase" so the two ujoints on the shaft are 90 degrees opposite. My question is can i remove the rear u joint without jacking the truck up and pull the shaft into its two pieces (so the splines are exposed and the rear of the shaft is completely unbolted) then spin the rear piece 90 degrees and put it back together and bolt it back on to have the shaft back "in phase" ? Is this the only way to do it? I know you are supposed to mark it all when pulling it off, but seeing as this didnt happen on purpose, i wasnt able to. Thanks for any help!

Yes, you can do that. It matters not if it reattaches to the flange in the same relation.

What exactly is your question? If you're asking can you unbolt the driveshaft with your 4Runner on the ground, yes. If you're asking if you can just unbolt one end of the driveshaft, yes. If you unbolt it at the rear, you can separate the slip yoke and reinstall it.

Yes, unbolt the driveshaft flange off the rear diff, pull it apart at the slipjoint and slide it back together.

I just looked at my driveshaft. The caps of the u-joints (the front and rear u-joints) are in alignment (both on the same side of the driveshaft).

Make sure that the parking brake is on and the wheels are blocked!

it's as easy as pie, remove 4 bolts, remove grease fitting collaps drive shaft then take it out, make sure you mark the DS b4 you remove it, it has to go back the same way.

beauiful thanks guys, took me about 40 minutes all in all.

I had to jack up the rear so i could remove the tires to droop the axle because the flange was way to tight to squeeze out after removing the 4 bolts. I chocked the wheels, put on the ebrake and i had to put it in neutral so that i could rotate the d/s slightly to get the holes to align properly when re installing.
