HELP! Girl with 4runner needs to know where to get parts, other than the dealer!
Hey, I have a 96 4runner Limited and I am looking for the tail light assembly, drivers side. Can be a whole light, or just the lens, I would take either. The one I have now is cracked and no matter what I do it keeps leaking! Where can I buy one of these that is good quality but not mucho expensive? I have had zero luck finding one in a boneyard near where I live.
I am also on the hunt for new bulb sockets (I think that's what they are) for the tail light as well. Due to the water leakage, the brake light socket is all rusted and corroded out. When you put a new bulb in it works for a few weeks then BAM no brake light. And forget about a running light on that side, it hasn't worked in almost a year. The pressing need to have it fixed now is due to a nice fat ticket I received a few days ago for it not working. If someone knows of a website where I could look this up, I would greatly appreciate it!
Oh, and last- anyone know where you can get a replacement for the fender flares on a 96 Limited? I had part of one ripped off by a near sighted old lady that just kept driving. Looks really stupid and I do not want to put it through my insurance to have it fixed I can do the work, just need to find the part! Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Have you tried looking on Craigslist for a parts vehicle?
And not sure if your local Toyota dealership is the same, but my local one will match the price of any OEM part. Even online prices.

A good online source for OEM parts is ToyotaPartsZone ( Toyota Parts - Genuine OEM Toyota Auto Parts and Accessories). Enter your VIN on the right side and you can look up every part your truck has.
Another is ToyotaPartSales ( ToyotaPartSales.com). This one has diagrams that make it easier to find what you're looking for.
These are more expensive than a scrap yard, but much less than going to a dealer, and they are new parts.

I have some bulb sockets you can have. Just pay for the shipping and they are yours. Let me know. Otherwise car-part.com would be a good source for the fender flare and taillight. No use going new for the taillight.

Salvage yard here in NE are pretty bad, I'm not surprised she can't find any.
Though A1980, you should be able to find a yard around with a 4runner in it. You may have to drive a ways, but they are out there (I know, I've looked). don't just give the guys your year and let them tell you if they have it, I think any year lights from 96 to 02 will fit. The guys working at the salvage yards probably only look for your exact part number, not ones that will fit.
Other than that, I'd go for ebay or craigslist.

I think the tail lights changed appearance and possibly bulb socket sizes from 96-98 and 01-02...not sure if there was a difference from 99-00 so you probably want to find a single 96-98 to match.
Also you could go with certifit. They won't have it listed on their website but they have it listed in their catalog. You can call and order or stop by if there is one in your area.
car-part.com will give you a list of 4runner parts in salvage yards all over the U.S.

Try rocky top auto. They helped me find some used parts at junk yards that I couldn't find anywhere else. Duhockey mentioned them in several other threads. He said to ask for Katie. Do a search in the forum for it to get the link.

you can search ebay for used parts.
Just enter "oem 4Runner tailight" into ebays search. The results should return scrapyard from across the country. I have had good luck buying two used parts this way. I actually found it to seem more reliable than my local scrapyard because of the review process.
