welding on sliders - instructions?

I'm about to get my Stubbs HD-SKO sliders welded on. I know the owner of the shop doing the work. He teaches welding and does a lot of welding work related to roll cages and such, but has never done sliders.

Does anyone have pics or basic step by step instructions I can share with him? I've got the instructions from Stubbs, but they don't get into the "how" of positioning the sliders. And I'm talking basic - how to do you get the sliders into position and hold them there for welding?

Thanks much,

Center them between the fenders, and give about a 1/2" between the slider and the pinch weld and weld em on. That simple.

Thanks everyone!

That write-up on the Tacoma is a huge help. I sent it to my welding buddy.

Actually, a follow-up question -

The four clamps mentioned in the article - I assume those are c-clamps used to hold the slider in position during welding. I was going to do a mock-up of the sliders today, but ran into an issue on the driver's side. Is it possible to fit those clamps around the area of the gas tank? Does it even matter?

Thanks,

Just to wrap this up and make something useful for the archives:

I got the sliders welded all around. Top, bottom, and sides. Richard Stubbs was pretty clear that he did not feel OK with only the sides welded. I know I feel more secure.

Now on to finishing the painting and this project is in the bag.
