Anyone in the bay area! please keep a lookout
i just dropped the pan on my transmission so i could do a flush and change the filter and the fluid was nasty burnt and just no bueno. then cleaning the pan out i knew the 4 magnets in the pan would have some stuff on them but i didn't expect it to have nearly as much grime on them as it did.
so anyone in the bay area or northern california area see a A340F transmission with a reasonable amount of miles on it (under 100k) please lemme know id like to get a back up now so i can save for a new one. i don't have 2 grand to get a new one but i can come up with 500 or so for a used one for the time being.
i know some of you aren't gonna see/agree with my logic on this. im just afraid my tranni is gonna crap out on me in the very near future hopefully im just worried about it and in reality its gonna give me another 100K miles provided i stay on pavement and drive conservatively.

Not sure about the mileage, but these guys have 3, 3rd gen 4runners they're parting out:
2000 TOYOTA 4RUNNER *** PARTING OUT *** ALL PARTS MUST GO!
No relation, just picked up a cargo cover last weekend from them for my new-to-me '99 I just bought.

I thought I was the only one with transmission failure premonitions, I still need to drop the pan and re-assure myself that it is fine still.

I don't get it, you had some grime on the magnets so you think it's going to fail? Was there chunks of metal in the magnets? Metal dust is ok, chunks are a sign it's going to fail.
Got pictures of the pan?

that is kinda how i made it sound huh? but no i not worried about it because the pan was dirty i knew it would be. im worried about failure for several reasons... such as i can feel how much it slips, every now and again going from neutral to reverse it takes a second then pops into gear. that and all the abuse I've put it threw and now since I've changed the fluid and filter removing all those particles
sorry no pictures. im limited to using my ipad and phone

What about sac yards?
better pricing, larger selection. i called these guys about a radio bezzle and had a real hard time understanding them as well.
i agree that b4 you jump to conclusions you might have the trans checked. Sure would cost a lot less then a tranny, finding out you dont need said tranny and then try to sell tranny...

I didn't even try the phone, figured it was easier to deal in person. Their English is better than my Spanish though.
There are a couple of parts yards down that way, I actually have to take a load of scrap down to sims metal in the morning which is right across from them. I'll see if I see anything else down that way. (my poor rig hasn't seen any fun times yet but it's been used to haul a washing machine, Jeep parts and now a bunch of junk... it's like it's being used as a truck or something!)

Ran out of time this morning so I didn't get to shop but there are two large pick-n-pull places on the same street as the one in the ad. Sorry.

I am still not convinced you need to replace it. My tranny take a solid 2-4 seconds to engage reverse, and if you are on the gas at all, it jolts really hard. It has been like that since I bought it, and I have put over 30k miles on it so far with no change in symptoms.
I don't feel slipping though, not exactly sure what you mean by that, but the slow shift into reverse may not be a big deal for a long time.
