I don't think Top Gear dropped a tree on their Hilux. That's one of the craziest things I've ever seen. Glad everyone is ok.

Wow, talk about lucky! Glad everything (sorta) worked out.

Sucks about the truck though, looked like it was well loved!

With (somewhat) equal force distribution and the end of the tree acting as a lever point, i would be surprised if the axle was bent. If anything, it would bend where the bump stops contact the frame (again, lever point) so the diff would have survived.

Also, there isn't any reason the 4Runner would NOT have started. You can cut the roof off, take all 4 doors off, remove the hatch, bumpers, boards, etc etc etc and it would still run and drive. Nothing runability related is in the back cargo area of those vehicles.

This is the story of the year. Wow. I am glad everyone is OK. You have to thank your lucky stars for that one.

In all seriousness, I'd put a little clip together of your ordeal and send it/call Toyota North America. Maybe you will have your own "this is my Toyota" segment/commercial. Or more.

Wow,

We get those wind storms here too that flatten mature forests like match sticks. Never seen anybody or a vehicle getting hit before though!

That is a serious saw too!

Is it possible to strip the truck of parts prior to giving it away? Insurance won't pay them out might as well take them off. Ie: Bumper, wheels (if still ok), etc.

MAN!! This has got to be my favorite recovery story of a Toyota ever... This is amazing! I can't believe a gigantic tree fell on the thing and you still drove it out! You should keep the beast, it's now legendary!

I'm glad you and your wife made it out safely, that's what counts in the end...

4RUNNER FOREVER!

I blame the roof rack. A good one would have been able to hold the tree..

That is a cool story though. Im glad you guys were ok, and I agree you should send that story into the toyota owners story site.

Incredible story.

Hopefully not too soon for this, but I always say if you're gonna look back on it and laugh someday, you may as well go ahead and laugh now.

This immediately popped into my mind.
