Winch mount to an ARB bumper

My ARB bumper arrived today and my SmittyBuilt winch will be here tomorrow. Is there a write-up somehwere with Pics of how all this goes together? I am sure it is obvious but since I don't have all of the parts yet and I have never done this before, I though tit prudent to research it a bit.

Do you mount the winch in the bumper then attach the bumper to the vehicle or is there room to mount the winch after the fact?

I know,

BTW, I already have this link saved

Mount winch to bumper and then bumper to vehicle using a floor jack with some wood blocks.

You're going to have to clock that winch to make it work w/the ARB. You should spend some time in my build thread... you seem to be doing alot of similar mods.

For now, here's the links straight to the winch install posts, with a full write-up on how to clock the XRC8

Clockin' the winch

In Cab Winch Control w/an XRC8

I used a cherry picker (engine hoist) and some rope to manipulate mine. It's pretty easy to do that way, probably much easier than a floor jack, and it won't roll off on your head .

This guy's videos helped me a lot. There are 3 parts. I welded 1/4" steel plates to the ends of the frame rails, with 7/16" nuts welded to the back. That keeps the frame rails from collapsing (so you don't need to use the sleeves on the bolts that go through the frame rails) and it gives a stronger point for the bolts into the end of the frame rail (where he put the flat washers which aren't much good for anything).

BTW: The ARB instructions are almost worthless. Watch the video and look at the forum posts.

In Africa they say: "Buy a Land Rover and it will take you anywhere. Buy a Toyota and it will take you there ... and bring you back home." jannikt on wranglerforum.com - I'm guessing he didn't make many friends there with that line.

That is a good idea, and I just happen to have a cherry picker (AND an engine hoist)
