1997 4Runner (3.4L V6) Warm Start Stall Problem?

Greetings,

I have a 90K miles 1997 4Runner (3.4L V6). Once a while, the engine stalls right after a warm start (e.g. after I stopped by StarBucks to get a coffee).

When I turn the key, the engine first starts up (i.e. have sparks) and then immediately stalls. After a second or third try to start, the engine will start normally.

I have owned this 4Runner since brand new. I always had the routine maintanence done by the same Toyota dealer. I recently did a 90K mile tune-up, changed the fuel filter and spark plugs wires, but the warm start stall problem still exists.

Any advise? Thanks for any help in advance

With best regards,
- Alex.

Hey I am wondering if your 4runner does what my Toyotas do. I guess it does idle higher when its cold and lower when its warm. I am not too sure how this works. However prehaps the lower idle is too low for the engine. Hope that helps.

Oh yeah, the problem is the ICV (idle control valve). take it off, clean it with TB cleaner and problem solved. I'm guessing it's because the gum residue inside the valve makes it sticky once it's warm. Seems like a good guess since there is a coolant line passing through it.

The ICV is a light green box bolted underneath the TB.

Let me know if you need more help.
