Stalling

I'm new here and this is my first post. I have a 98 TR4. Sometimes it stalls when it is the engine is hot, it is in Drive and I come to a stop. It will continue to stall if I try to move from a stop. If I put it in 1st, then shift up to drive as I gain speed it is ok. But it will stall again if left in Drive and come to a stop. Any ideas?

In Africa they say: "Buy a Land Rover and it will take you anywhere. Buy a Toyota and it will take you there ... and bring you back home." jannikt on wranglerforum.com - I'm guessing he didn't make many friends there with that line.

Thanks, but if it was one of your suggestions then why would the engine run fine in 1st gear? Wouldn't it run rough from stop no matter which gear you chose?
