99' 4Runner SR5 fender flare question after removing running boards.

So, I just purchased a clean 99' 3rd gen SR5 with 189K for $3500!!
I'm very excited to do some inexpensive modifications.

First being.. running board removal!

I can remove the boards no problem, but it seems there is a plastic connection coming from the bottom of front flare.
When I remove this connection, would the front flare extend all the way down to bottom of door, or do i need some sort of extension piece?

The rear flare in front of rear wheel seems that is extends further down, so it should look ok..

Please let me know if I need to add any pieces to extend flares after removing running boards.
see photo

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

And then you can cut the end part on the back to make it look like this

You can purchase front mud guards but they are about $70/pair and it's an OEM option only,no aftermarket flaps work with the flares.

What is the part number for those mud guards? I did the same thing with my running boards last year and ordered the mud guards but the ones I got don't fit the extended flares like that.

I'm thinking of doing the same but hesitant on how it would look with the abrupt stop of the factory fender flares. Anymore pics of running boards removed?

basically every 3rd gen that is lifted has the running boards removed for additional ground clearance. just click a recent build thread in the 3rd gen section and start looking around.

it was the first thing i did (at stock height) while i was waiting for my lift.

Not to revive a dead thread or anything, but I'm curious to know if anyone might know how much a full set of the black SR5 flares would cost from dealer? I can't seem to find them available anywhere else, even after creating a WTB/WTT thread, as I have the limited (fat) flares.

There is no more remaining stock in the US.

You can find them at junkyards. Make sure you get the door clips and rear wheel well bolts. If you have the chrome strips the install directions will tell you to drill the existing screw holes out for bolts. I actually retained the screws and used some washers... still good three years later. These will probably be rusted junk on an east coast vehicle.

Cap type option

Not peddling these but seriously considering this option as I simply cannot find any other options for the elusive flaps. Yep, new here cause I just got a Runner, been on IH8mud mostly with my FJ62 but in the Runner family now.
