Like already mentioned, talk to him and figure out why he wants to sell. Unexpected circumstances pop up all the time, and maybe he planned on keeping the truck, but something came up. Maybe he got a new job and needs to suddenly relocate, divorce, etc, etc...
I got my truck for a rock-bottom price cuz I had a friend with me who knew how to haggle and the seller just lost his job and needed to pay bills, so the Runner had to go.
Assuming the truck is mostly rust free and if the seller can provide maintenance records, including info regarding the engine, then I'd also ask about the radiator and LBJs. The 3rd Gen Buyer's Guide sticky is a good place to start.
