Are these bumpstops?

Ok in the rear springs what are the big rubber things inside them called? I'm wondering if they're bumpstops or something else, maybe to help tow or what? Because those things are pretty close on touching the bottom part which makes the rear very bumpy. Would it be ok to take them off?

Yes it is a bump stop for spring compression. I took mine out when I put on my Sonoran Steel rear lift.

If you take them off you would be taking out a support that is holding up your truck. Eventually your spring will have no more "spring to it" and your ride quality will be crap. I would strongly suggest getting new springs, or for a temp fix, assist bags. The picture that you posted looks like the spring is at the end of its life. Imagine if you take out the cone, your suspension will still be halted by the axle bumpstop.

The picture is not my vehicle. With nobody in the car the bumpstops are about half an inch on hitting

You're in pretty desperate need for some new springs. If you remove them, and then hit a pothole, instead of rubber being the item that makes contact, it will be metal on metal. With that kind of inertia, it won't be long before you either dent/bend the axle housing or cause some frame damage. Either way, you're talking considerably more money than what it would run to have some new springs shipped to your door.

I would NOT recommend taking out the spring bump stop in your situation. I only took mine out because Sonoran Steel recommended it when I lifted it. Are your springs sagging?

Not to thread jack but did you put something else at the top of the new spring or is it just metal on metal up there.

I didn't put anything in there beside the LC springs that come with the SS lift. I have not noticed any sounds or ill effects. It seems to be a common practice with LC spring lift.

Thanks for the reply. I recently did the 891 lift and left them in. I did a little research but couldn't find any conclusive answers.

The arched rubber pieces on the frame are the bumpstops.
The cones inside the coils are Jounce bumpers. They are there to carry the load when loaded down. If you are going taller coils, the chances of loading to the point that they would be needed is slim. While wheeling, these can limit compression. The removal of them allows the steel coil to ride on the steel coil bucket on top. I don't like that option. Also removing them reduces lift by about 3/8". I have kept mine in but cut a couple of donuts off each.
