Limit straps a good investment?
Hola dudes, I removed my sway bars from my rig a few months ago for better flexing fun, but now that im going to start driving this beast everyday some kind of sway resistance would be nice. lol Anyways on to the point, i was looking for advice on what size strap i would need for a 3 in. suspension lift.
Rock Assault
Any and all input is appreciated!
Thanks, Cody

10" limit strap is the norm for the front of our rigs.. I cannot remember what the rear is. Sonoran steel makes a weld on bracket. Just buy the other parts and you're good to go.

This is the setup I went with for the front, big thanks to Dirtco for setting me up w/the parts list.
Limiting Strap Parts List
Whether or not they are a good investment will depend on your setup, and what you're looking to prevent/control by installing them. From the sounds of it, you're just looking for something that will provide and anti-sway function. Unfortunately, limit straps will NOT do that for you. They are only going to come into play when your suspension is at the limit of it's downtravel, which it will never reach simply taking corners on the street.
I'd just put my swaybar back on if I were you.

Also interested in limiting straps for my 99 4x4. Anyone else with strap setups chime in.

Without limit straps, the shocks are the limiting factor. Personally for rock crawling, they are excessive. If you are dune jumping or desert racing, YES they are very important.

After breaking 3 shock studs and wasting 400 bucks, I now believe that limiting straps are a must for the back-end. This was low speed rock crawling mind you, the shocks that broke were Bilstein 5150's.
I have all my parts for my straps at the house and will be installing once I get home for my break. I picked everything up for 60 bucks.
As for the front I couldn't care less, from what I can tell it doesn't articulate anyway!

What did you get for the rear? From where? And install pics?

I will get some pictures of the finished product this weekend. I picked up double shear mounts from ECGS since they are right up the street. I also ran down to 4WP and picked up the ProComp 18" straps. Total price was around $62. The ProComps weren't my first choice but I wanted the straps right then as I thought I would have time to install, but it had to be pushed back.
The lower mount will attach to the same location the lower shock eye does with an extended bolt...A-La DirtCo

for roll resistant, straps are pretty useless, for crawling, it's only good if your shocks are too short or you have clearance issue, for prerunning yes they are life savers

Yea I felt like the OP is asking if they function similarly to sway bars in preventing body roll

Indeed i was. Thank your for all the input! The only prob. with putting my sway bar back on is the end link broke, thats why it was off. lol but after learning the new facts idt its what i need. I do some crawling but not enough to need the straps on the rear. New rear shocks are next on my list. The Rough Country shocks i got blew so now it sounds like a squeaky covered wagon when driving through parking lots.
Thanks again everyone!

Here you go. i took these off my build thread. I have been running the setup for awhile now. I think i installed them sometime in the spring. its been great. Troyboy is also now running the some setup as well. I can't run my current shock without them, with the tokicos they were only there to save the shocks but now the cheap white bodies i have are way too long fully extended.
i bout a set of quad wrapped limit straps with the mounts from ruff stuff. These straps are real nice. I was worried about them being to short but trusted the info on the stretch of the straps and they are absolutely perfect. THey are 18" and stretch to 19" and that leaves me around 3/4" before the shocks maxed out. They are perfect.
Pics
Over all: I used the bottom shock mount. I used a bolt that was about 1" longer so it is way in the mount
Upper mount. Double shear setup with grade 8 hardware
Label on the strap. I was reading somewhere ruff stuff uses a local rock climbing company that makes nylon straps for these. Must be the company's name. Im stoked on the quality. And it was under $60 shipped for 2 straps. 4 mounts and hardware

^^ I'll be soon to follow this. My 35's stuff in the fender before my shocks limit out but I still don't want to allow that much travel b/c it flexes to the point where the ds hits the gas tank skid.
Another helpful tip, If you cannot get limit straps (no one to weld for you) then I suggest picking up a set of extended rear bumpstops.

Some food for thought. I didn't see it mentioned but limit straps stretch. I forget what it is, but I think it's a 1" every 10".
Also when tightening down the limit straps make sure you droop it out with the straps on then tighten the bolts all the way down.
And the size depends on how and where you mount it.
