HID Trouble

I have a 2000 Toyota 4Runner SR5 and I bought a HID hi/low kit from DDM. The driver side light kept going out so I looked it up and I read to disable the drl's. I figured out how to do that. I still had the problem so I went to DDM and was told I needed a new ballast so I installed that today. The problem is still not fixed, that drivers side light keeps going out when i'm driving or even just parked in the driveway. Any suggestions?? I'm tired of making the trips to DDM to tell me I need to keep fixing crap that hasn't helped.

Try switching the ballasts and bulbs in different combinations from drivers side to passengers side. This will tell if the problem follows or not and you will be able to pinpoint it easier.

Get a quality kit. I've never had a lot of luck with the cheaper eBay or DDM kits. I get my HID stuff from The Retrofit Source now. Much higher quality. My last set of cheapy ballasts felt really light, almost empty. The ballasts from TRS actually felt like there was something in them. Havent had a problem since I switched. Sure the initial cost is more but to me its worth it not having to replace ballasts every 2 months.

x2 ^^ I ditched my DDM kit within 6 months. I had the same problem with one light not being able to turn on. The bulb melted all the plastic around it, then blew. Very cheap crappy kits IMO.

Yeah I had a cheapy HID kit on my motorcycle, ran it for about a year, had to get rid of it because it literally fell apart.

Check your grounds and connections. Are you running a stand-alone relay harness? If your running them through the Factory wiring then your asking for a fire.

I've done everything (disable drls, replace ballast, switch bulbs to the other side) and they keep shutting off. This time they are both shutting off. I'm going in tomorrow to get them fixed or my money back. I have gone in a half dozen times and im pretty fed up.

i saw DDM and just had to post.

after 3 bad sets, i learned a lesson. DDM sucks, and whats even worse is that their cust svc is even worse than their product.

They responded weeks later to me through email, when i called they would answer then say, "please hold" for 10 min, and then the last time i had an issue they just flat out ignored me.

I sent an email maybe 3 months aft the original email, just to see if for some reason there may be a way they would answer . . . fail.

I threw mine in the trash and considered it a wrap.

do yourself a favor, throw that kit in trash, save for a new one that costs at least 3 times as much, and move on with your life.

Not sure if you saw this suggestion, but it still stands.... this could be your issue.

The "included" relay in the hi/low only powers the thing to move the shield up and down. Get an actual relay that powers the ballasts directly from the battery, not the existing wires.

I saw that and I have checked them all before. I demanded a new kit and ballast today and I said if it doesn't work I want a full refund. They listened this time. Strange thing was there were two people infront of me with the same problem just with their Tacomas.
