Power steering issues

Lately, my power steering has been on the fritz. When I pull my wheel all the way to either side, it squeals quite a bit, and sometimes right in the middle it'll squeal and the wheel will get impossible to turn (loss of power assist?). My friends say the belt is slipping because of the mud as I've been getting a bit muddy as it gets wetter, but even when I dry off, it still happens.

Anyone have a similar issue or can tell me what it may be? I've never done work on a power steering system, so I'm not familiar enough with them to figure it out on my own.

Try a new belt. Once they start slipping/squealing they glaze over and slip easier.

Just tighten the belt before replacing it. That alone may do the trick.
