16x8 wheels with 265/70R16 tire?

I'm thinking about picking up a set of 16x8" Land Cruiser wheels for my '99 4Runner. I'd like to transfer over the 265/70R16s from the stock wheels, since the tires are new. Springs will remain stock '99 talls. Will this cause any issues? Will it look goofy with the wider wheels? I can't seem to find any pictures with this setup.

Not at all. You'll be fine. Don't over think it.

It will look good. I have 265s on FZJ-80 wheels. Doesn't make a lot of difference but it is noticeable.

Here's a couple pics for ya.

First one is 265/75/16 Falken Rocky Mountains on stock suspension.

The next is 265/75/16 on a 1.5\\" BL.

Sorry for the link. On my phone and it's being a douche and not letting me save or post pics from the forum.

I really need to get my laptop fixed......

Found a set on craigslist and bought them today. They are very dirty, but the finish appears to be in good shape. The center caps need paint though, so I need to decide on a color.

Doc's ZRV(Pic Heavy)
Saw you convert your front with manual locking hubs from a tacoma. Is this straight fix or you have to mess with it?

I was thinking of doing this some time ago. I feel like doing it now.

Thanks

Pretty straight forward. Just need to make the diff into a "manual diff."

Here's my write up.

Doc's mod thread.

There's more than just that mod in there. Feel free to ask any question that aren't clear from the write up.

Hole that helps!

OK, I got how you manual the ADD diff. Nice work and nice thinking!!!

Now, if I get the front hubs from a tacoma, would it mount with the existing
lower ball joint mount?
upper ball joint mount?
caliper hose?
CV axle length? Did you use your 4runner CV's or tacoma? Did the splines matched?

Finally, can I do the manual diff while it is in the truck?
Have you noticed any increase in gas mileage?

Thanks!!

Yes

upper ball joint mount?

Yes

caliper hose?

Same calipers. No need to do anything with the brakes.

CV axle length? Did you use your 4runner CV's or tacoma? Did the splines matched?

CVs came from O'Rielly's for a MANUAL Taco. IIRC, I didn't have to worry about the splines matching. Just get CVs for the same year HUBS you're using.

The manual CVs are "held" in place by a 12mm safety bolt with a massive washer on the hub end.

The best part of this is that if you want to leave the CVs for later, you can. You DO NOT have to run CVs with manual hubs. One of the main reasons I decided to switch to them. Just make sure you either pull the diff, or cover both sides of the diff, and cover up the back of the hubs to keep the insides clean.

Finally, can I do the manual diff while it is in the truck?

I believe you can. I had mine out because I swapped in a diff i bought with 4.88s and an ARB air locker off a guy on the TTORA forum, so I just did it to the 4.88 diff.

Have you noticed any increase in gas mileage?

No noticeable increase in gas mileage.

It's best to get the uppers and lowers and change those out while you're doing the hubs. It's all going to be off anyway. Plus, you're probably going to destroy your upper ball joint while you're trying to get it off the ADD knuckle. The lower, best to avoid the LBJ failure.

You don't need to do anything to the brakes. Your calipers are going to bolt straight up to the knuckle.

If you want to do the Tundra upgrade, you'll have to mess with the brake lines and all that jazz. I haven't done it yet, so I can't say for sure what you need to do it.

Any other questions, shoot me a PM. The email notifications go right to my phone, so it won't take me long to respond.

Thanks for the update. Yes, I know that 12 mm bolt with the washer at the end of the CV. I have dealt with 2nd gen 4runner and 90-00 hilux front axles a lot. This is the reason why I was interested in getting manual locking hubs to the 3rd gen 4runner.

You know it is extremely hard to find a 4x4 taco in a junk yard. I found 1 on CL in Little Rock AR, but had no idea on how to do it then.

Yeah. A lot of people either take the knuckles off or there's a lot of people doing the swap.

Not to mention these things are beasts and run for ever.

I can call a guy I know in Asheville, but the shipping is going to be ridiculous.

Still an option though.
