antenna question

i just purchased the bridgewood OEM antenna mast after reading through a couple of threads on here which i'm hoping is all i need to fix my antenna.

the dealer (again) wanted $300 to replace it and i just couldn't believe it was that expensive.

symptoms: it goes up one extension of the antenna then the motor runs forever. when i turn it off, it goes back down.

hopefully the mast is all i need to replace...or did i just spend $20 on something that isn't going to fix the issue?

nope that sounds right, if the little plastic gear teeth in there are broken it wouldn't move at all, just be sure you don't break these while removing the old mast and be extra careful when installing the new one, if this fails just do taco whip mod and be done with it, it also looks better imo....that's say $50 tops from a junk yard or $110 or so new from dealer, you can also choose the color of the ant if you go that route.

Or go with one of these. It's what I'm using and it doesn't have a hole in the fender because the stock antenna is still in there. Just doesn't move.

wouldn't you still have to find a way to run that antenna wire from the back of your radio to the windshield? or does this sit just above the dash?

i wouldn't want that wire hanging loose or having to pull my car apart to run it under the headliner to the middle of my windshield.

seems easier just to pull the old mast and replace the factory antenna unless i'm missing something.

It's long. I ran it from the antenna, across the top of the windshield under the headliner, down the a pillar, under the cover, then through the side of the dash. Under the airbag, across to the radio.

I'll probably end up with one of those windshield antennas when I get a Cb. I plan to mount the CB antenna in the existing antenna hole if i can figure out a clean way to do it.

Is this antenna stronger than the stock one?

It is. It's a power amped antenna.

When I would drive home from Jacksonville, I would loose signal to the radio station i was listening to about 30 min into the drive. Gotta go through the sticks. With this, I've got the station almost to Raleigh.

And you don't have to pull anything out. There's a little tool it comes with so you can just tuck it all under the headliner. A-pillar, and the dash.

The only thing you need to take off is the mirror. And only then you need to remove one screw for a ground.

I've got both. Keep the mast in the stock location, just down so it doesn't stick up and get ripped off.
