V8 swap shop?
Hello All,
Can anyone recommend a shop for a V8 swap? I have a 97 3RZ that I'd like to swap out so I can tow a boat with ease. I'm in Orange County, California and I'm willing to travel to get the job done right.
Thanks everyone.

Since you're in Orange County check with https://www.yotamasters.com/ they're in Corona.
Or Man-A-Fre Land Cruiser and FJ Cruiser Parts and Accessories since 1958 they're in Simi Valley
Not sure if either of these two do engine swaps. But I know they know Toyotas and do good work.
Also check with TLC they're in Chatsworth. I know they do motor conversions and keep it CA Smog Legal. But I'm pretty sure they're $$$.
You might want to sell the 4Runner and buy a 100 Series, or a 4th gen with a V8.

Thats a tough consideration... taking it to a shop, as mentioned will cost quite a bit, and if it is for towing, other issues like brakes, and the 4cyl diff, might want to be looked at too.
With the money involved, and not knowing if much is done to your rig already, (as mentioned) it might be worth looking into the 4th gens with the V8 already in it?

your probably looking in the neighborhood of $4-5k just for the labor of the swap, and another $1500-3k for the motor... its not worth it man, unless you just have a ton of money to piss away. because as others have said, your gonna need to upgrade a lot of other things, like the trans, brakes, drive shafts, and possibly diffs... by the time all is said and done to do it right your looking at probably $10+k... not worth it. buy a 4th gen or 100 series. -plus with those when something breaks you dont have to have the part custom made, you just go buy a new one from the auto parts store or find a wrecked truck and get your part there...

Sell it.
Buy a Land Cruiser or a 4Runner with a super charger.
Flushing $10k down the toilet makes no sense.
Just buy the right car and if you still want to blow some cash donate it to charity.

I tend to not agree with that statement. I want a V-8 4Runner, and eventually that will happen. I HATE the look and feel of a 4th Gen, so there will be a V-8 in my 3rd Gen 4Runner. Of course I will be doing it myself over the course months/year and not paying someone else the labor.

Contact T4R member Singtoe. He did a V8 swap in his and it's tits. And he's on the East Coast. But if you could convince him to do it for you, you won't be disappointed.
The easy (and smart) way would be to sell it and buy something else. But having a V8 3rd Gen would just be too cool.

totally depends on the v8 he wants to throw in there, im sure everyone here was thinking uz series but someone could thrown a old 350, 302 mated to there respective transmissions transfercases and be just fine.
with that said when/if my 3.4 blows it will be getting a 1uz.

Doing it yourself is admirable.
OP is looking to pay professionals to do it. I don't think it is worth the xxxx $$$.

I love my 4runner. It is worth the money to do the swap. I forgot how much I have in mine but definitely worth it.
Now to pay someone to do the swap... If you can get some one to do it under a K note, it would be acceptable. I would probably set a budget limit of 3.5k or so. (maybe same cost as trd supercharger)
Anyone thinking about doing the swap and waiting for their existing motor to blow first, don't. Just do it. You old motor is worth more (almost the same price as a V8) alive. People can test drive and hear it run.
Sell the old motor with the electronics, pumps, air and exhausts as conversion swap for the older 4runners, pick ups and MR2's.

Well I'm definitely going to wait for mine to go. I doubt anyone would want a 3.4 with 347k on the motor!
Any chance when it comes time to do it that we can hook up and do it together? I live in Hampton, but could travel down there on the weekends to do the swap. This could be a few years down the road.
