Cruise Control Question

As long as I've had my 4R the cruise control has never worked. Today while checking fluid levels and oil, I found the cruise control wire tucked down into the engine bay. I tried connecting it to what looked like the right place on the throttle body. Not sure if I connected it just right. When I started it, with cruise control OFF, it immediately started to redline as if I was giving it WOT. So can someone give me some insight on how to properly connect the wire? I've tried searching and couldn't find much. Point me to a thread if you know of one. Is there something that needs to be reset after the wire is put back on? Or did I just connect it wrong?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

By wire you mean cable right? It must be pushing the throttle wide open when you attached it to the TB. Maybe the CC unit is jammed wide open, or you attached it wrong..?

Different system but I had an Audi that acted the same way when a vacuum seal broke due to a broken rubber boot. The car kept speeding up untill the cluctch was depressed then the engine red lined till I shut if off and removed the cruise control cable. Real fun on the side of the road and in the dark. This doesn't help much but this thread reminded me of the day I did 100mph without pressing the gas

It looked to be in the same position with the cable (yes, i meant the cable. haha) on as it was when it was disconnected. I'm pretty sure the bit on the end of the cable wasnt in there right. but it was close. not sure exactly how it should be connected and where that bit should sit and lock in. and if the unit itself was stuck, that would explain why it wasnt connected. but if the CC was off and it still did this could the unit still be to blame?

Maybe it's not stuck, maybe it activates on it's own when the truck is turned on. Have someone start the truck and you watch the cable and see if it moves.

Never thought of that. I'll try that.
