Another lift question thread
I've done a search, but didn't get a whole lot of responses to my questions.
I've been looking at both OME and Toytec lifts. The toyotec looks nice but it's $250 more than the OME, I had the OME on my 1994 4Runner and loved the ride and off-road capability. I don't do rock crawling, i stick to mud holes and trails up the mountain. I do some rocks, but nothing I'd need to dual case or anything on. So i guess my question is what's best for what I do? I like a level looking ride, so the adjustability is nice. My truck will be getting a heavy front bumper and eventually a fab'ed rear bumper to match. The front bumper will go on with the lift so I'll be getting the HD front coils, and I have a significant amount of weight in the back so probably the HD or MED duty in the rear. Thoughts?
I don't need/want a huge lift, 3 inches is plenty enough. The 2 inches on my 2nd gen was good enough for me. But with this truck I'm looking at probably 3" lift and ~33's for tires. This is my DD so while being functional it has to be confortable. Sort of the reason I want to go with the OME because I liked their quality before.
So I'm between three options:
OME- I've had personal experience, it's stiff but flexible and I really liked the ride in my 2nd gen 4Runner.
Toytec Ultimate- Heard good things, and a lot of people have it on here.
Toytec Boss- Only go with this option for the superflex coils, is it worth it though?

Pretty sure you can get super flex coils in the ultimate also.
My .02 is either the ultimate for your intended use or sonoran steel 1.2

I don't have anything to add, besides the fact that my experiences with OME products have been second to none. From their quality of suspension components, to their responsive customer service. Then again though, the OME suspension was on my Jeep Cherokee XJ, and not a 4Runner. I'll be staying tuned as I look to garner more information on which suspension components I should look into.
I'll mostly be traveling via HWY, dirt roads, and occasionally trails at the local OHV area. For those reasons, I am looking at the OME 880 (1 1/2")/906 (2") with OME shocks to fulfill those duties (Tires are LT265/75/16s).

You're correct. I'm now confused on the difference between the two lift kits....

I have not installed a lift on my 2002, but have done hours of research and finally I am starting to order parts. This is the set up I am sold on.
Front
Toytec 3 inch eibach springs
Toyota Tundra 5100 Adjustable Shocks
Diff Drop
Rear
Land Cruiser 8 wrap springs ( just recieved yesterday)
Land cruiser Rear shocks.
Adjustable panhard bar.
I have read that the eibach front springs provide a true 3inch lift even with some additional weight without being way to stiff. I decided on the adjustable front tundra shocks just in case if I do sag if a purchase a heavy bumper and winch in the future I can adjust the ride height.
I bought the Land Cruiser springs for lift and price. I will probably have a rake but hopefully not to extreme, and again if I add a heavy rear bumper the lc coils should be okay with the added weight

The differences I'm seeing between the "boss" kit and "ultimate" is here new coil over shock design.
The only thing good iv herd about ome is there coils, there shocks suck I guess.
I second the above suggestion about the sonoran 1.2 rear and toytec coilovers, or sway aways if you have the money.

After all my research I ordered the Toytec Boss kit. Front setup looks better than ultimate with new valveing etc. I would bet the ultimate may get replaced with the boss maybe. Very similar.
As for the tundra trd coils new stock my buddy in parts at Toyota said there are only a few sets in the US and that goes for the highlander coils too. He thought they will be discountinued shortly. Taking that into cosideration if I ever need to replace parts Toytec seems to have a longevity as a company and the told me they can rebuild the boss front struts. The LC coils seem a little tall and superflex share their qualities while having a more suitable height.

How does it ride? (If you've put it on yet, or anyone who has the Boss lift setup)
I'm leaning more towards the toytec boss lift. For the purpose of rebuilding and the superflex rear coils, though I'm afraid of a rake :/ and sagging.

For reference - Jon is running the toytec coilovers up front and the superflex coils in the back. He has it adjusted pretty even. Look up his screenname and look at some of his pics. There are pics of his truck in my build thead too.

ah sweet deal, I'm leaning towards the Boss lift since I believe the Ultimate will be discontinued. The adjustable coil overs sounds really nice to me haha with the super flex rear coils.

Also, why doesn't the 3rd gen kid have a steering stabilizer option? Does it use a different system from the 2nd gen? I liked the steering stabilizer from OME kit that went into my 2nd gen, stiffened the steering. Helped off-road and kept my steering from bouncing around so damn much. Is there any way to do this on the 3rd gens?

There's no option because we don't have one...haha. There isn't a way to set one up either and it's not really necessary.
I'd go with the Boss or ultimate set up. I have nothing against OME, but it's really nice having an adjustable front. It really makes it easy to get the right ride height, especially if you are going with add a bumper, winch or skid plates.

oh really? that's interesting... Sorry I haven't been under my new 4runner yet to work on it. My mind is going crazy that I haven't either! But that's what being 300 miles from home and your shop will do. I think i'm going to go with the boss lift and just do OME 891's in the rear with blistiens all around (obviously) and the diff drop for the CV angle. Yeah i'll be adding a front bumper so ill get the 650 coils, anyone run them on the front without the added weight? (Just curious how they did, i wouldn't be running for to long without adding the weight.) Debating on fabricating a rear bumper for my truck too, but i don't really like having the tire on the back, but i'd like to take it out from underneath. Not sure what I plan on doing with that yet. Will build a roof rack, but don't want to keep the tire up there really either.
