Spare Tire for 17" FJ Wheels?
So I recently bought a set of 5 FJ rims with new tires for $650. I ended up selling my stock 2002 Sport Rims with tires for $375. I like having 5 matching rims and tires so I can rotate all 5 in and theoretically add 25% to the life of the tires.
My question is this: Does anyone here run 265/70/17 tires as a spare that can be mounted underneath? I searched but didn't find anyone. Also I'd like to keep the rim in good shape so it looks good when it get rotated into action. I found several owners that keep 265/75/16 tires in the stock location. The diameter is about the same as mine. So I figure it can fit. I'm just hoping someone has solution that keeps the alloy rim from getting destroyed.
I thought about "ghettoing" it up and buying a round, black, garbage can lid and cutting it to cover the 17 inches of the rim. But I was hoping that someone had a smarter, better looking and/or more effective solution.
Note: I did the Tundra brake upgrade so I've been looking for a way to replace the stock spare anyway. (To avoid having to move a the stock spare to the back if I got a flat up front)
Thanks.
