Just added remote start, need help with clicker over ride

I just had installed today a keyless remote start, an Avitol 4003 in my 99 limited. It used the factory remote and I press lock (3) times to get it to start. The problem is with my 4Runner overrides the remote when the car is on, so I cant press unlock once the car is on to open my doors, I need to stick the key in and turn it. Any way to override that? thanks

I suggest you go back to the installer and ask for your money back.

It sounds like you paid and they didn't do it right.

I advise EVERYONE against installing an after-market start on their 4Runner because of all the problems they cause.

I install remote car starters for a living, and I normally talk people out of using the factory remotes. What you are experiencing is normal operation for most factory remotes and there is no way to override this. Go back to the shop that installed it and ask them to program the avitol remotes that should have come with the remote start in the first place. The aftermarket remotes usually have far superior range than the factory units.

My remote start has worked great for the 5 years I've had it in the 4Runner. A shitty install is the cause of problems, not just having it installed. Of course most people wouldn't want to pay for a proper good installation either.

To the original poster, that sucks to hear, you basically need to find the wire that tells the toyota keyless box that the ignition is on and use a relay to interrupt it. The remote start should have a ground when "armed" or similar wire that should provide ground signal when the unit is running the vehicle to trigger the relay.
