Question Loud exhaust out of nowhere

So today on my way to work I saw a check engine light come on. During my lunch break I went to auto zone to get the code checked and the guy told me it was pulling a bad TPS sensor. I went back to work and figured I'd pick one up around the corner from my house when I got off. The 4runner ran completely normal all day at this point. I may have noticed a slight rough idle but nothing major. Anyway, as I was about to leave work I turned the truck on and it sounded like I had flow masters or something installed. It was a loud, low rumbling sound. The noise just came out of no where. Anyone have any clue as to what it might be?

When I first read this I thought that if I lost the catalytic converter that I would have noticed it while driving...that is until I remembered how many POS crackheads there are in this world. They cut it clean off. I haven't checked yet, but the whole thing is probably on video. we have security cameras at work all over the parking lot.

OP, that really sucks. Hopefully they are on tape and something can come of it.

I would guess the studs on your o2 sensors rusted and it just popped out of your cat. If so I used wire and chimney flue cement for a temporary solution.

No, it was cut. both O2 sensors are still there. There was a pile of shavings on the ground form where they cut it.
