Question Do I need to changing the back lock?

So about a week ago, my rear door (trunk) got stuck closed. Something was wrong with the latch and the handle did move when you pulled it, but it wouldn't open. A few days later it suddenly started working, but then the key hole locked up and I cannot twist the key to lock it.

To make things worse, the electronics are a little unusual and the unlock button on the door panel works, but the lock does not (this is not a new issue).

So I'm thinking I have to buy a new lock and replace it? I tried using some wd 40 but that was unsuccessful. Any thoughts as to an easy fix?

It's not all that unusual. The actual release/catch is on the bottom of the door and the handle pulls it with a cable (so spraying the key lock doesn't do any good). What usually happens is the release/catch on the bottom of the door gets gummed up. Remove the inner door panel to open the latch by hand. Then spray it full of WD40 until it runs clean. That should fix the latch part. The electric/key lock is probably another story. On my 98 I could unlock it from inside but not with the key, so I just used the inside switch.

In Africa they say: "Buy a Land Rover and it will take you anywhere. Buy a Toyota and it will take you there ... and bring you back home." jannikt on wranglerforum.com - I'm guessing he didn't make many friends there with that line.

Thanks, I'm gonna have to give this a shot later in the week when I have time.

Hopefully this works!
