Transmission pan drop advice

I'm dropping the trans pan this week to replace solenoids on my 97. She now has 282 k kms. Wondering if its worth it to do home trans flush of old fluid while I'm under there (as per the sticky write-up). Some folks are saying just do a drain and refill because of the mileage. Truck is running decent, fluid is clear with no burnt smell. Pulled a PO 770 code a while back and finally want to take care of it

Thx

If it were me, I'd just drop the pan, scrap off all the FIPG, and see if there is any material stuck to the magnets. If nothing to be overtly concerned with, change the solenoids, put the pan back on using a gasket, fill it up till the right amount (up to 4qts I would say), and drive on.

Well, a little frustrated here. I dropped and cleaned the pan and magnets (decent condition for 280k kms) and swapped out all 3 solenoids. Install went smooth, did a visual of valve body and everything looked clean. Fluid in good shape (did a change 20k kms ago).

Put the pan back on, filled her up and went out on the highway. Smooth and easy shifting. A few days later, went out camping on the weekend, and there comes the CEL at 100 km/hr. Hesitating again at 100km before finally kicking in gear. Haven't put the OBD on it to know for sure its the P0770 again, but its the exact same scenario/symptoms.

Not sure how to proceed? Was hoping the new solenoids would fix this issue. Thinking of doing a full manual flush, but open to any suggestions. Everything else on truck is smooth. Thx.

p0770 has to do with torque convertor lock up. Replacing the solenoid (solenoid "E") usually fixes the problem. But if it doesn't either your valve body is really messed up or you have an electrical issue. I also read somewhere before that sometimes you have to replace the torque converter to fix the issue.

A flush might fix the issue, but usually once you have a transmission issue a flush is just a band-aid. IMO.

I had that same problem about a year ago. I cant remember the code but it had something to do with solenoid e. I replaced the solenoid my self(expensive part), and it didnt fix the problem. I had to have my tranny rebuilt.

My truck was cutting out on me when in drive. The only way I could get it to stay on was to start it in 4 low, and then take it out of 4 low and I could drive it without it cutting out on me.
