Burning Oil

Started my car today for the first time this week to drive 2 miles and immediatly could smell burning oil. I fixed the valve cover gasket when it was leaking when I bought the car last year. Checked oil and it seemed a little low. Any idea?

Also whats the best percentage oil to ad to top it off, never changed the oil on my car and never needed to ad oil so this would be my first time in this department

Update: Added 1 quart of oil so its now at the high point on the dip stick, planning on taking it to the beach tomorrow for 4th of july and ill check the dip stick when I get back home to see if it got lower, or bad idea to drive the car and wait to take it to my mechanic? Ill check this post in the morning before I take off ;)

It may not be helpful but just for future references, the amount of oil from the low bead to the high bead on the dip stick is a quart.
