Bump stops

At the risk of being "e" yelled at...
( I did do a search, but didn't find what I was looking for)

So, I'm looking for some info on maximizing my rear flex on the toytec ultimate lift. Anyone running this lift mess with the bump stops? I have stock 99 stops in both the springs and on the frame... I have heard of some guys cutting the spring stops down a bit, and getting longer frame stops.... Will this help with rear axle flex? (part one)

My second question is that I am considering getting the super flex springs from toytec, as im getting the savage rear bumper with swing out, and worried about sag...... Will I need to do anything else... I have the bilstien res shocks (5125 maybe?)

Thanks in advance

You can shorten the bumpstops, as long as you make sure they still come in contact before the shocks bottom out.

Yeah, I guess I'm looking for someone who has my set up, who can tell me if I can shorten them, and if it will help with flex at all??

stock shocks are around 12" compressed, give or take a little, IIRC. So measure from the lower spring perch upwards and see how much you have. You need bump stop contact prior to the 12", obviously. You should also extend your frame bump stops to help prevent harsh bottoming.

While this may be true, with the Toytec Ultimate Lift kit I WOULDN'T shorten your bump stops. I ran the ultimate for the past 2 years with OME 891's and bilstein 5150's in the rear with stock bump stops. Well, about 6 months ago I bottomed out the shock on the drivers side and bent it pretty bad. 2 weeks later the passenger's side followed and did the same. Bump Stops are their for a reason and by shortening them, you're doing the opposite of what most guys do and recommend. If anything you want to lengthen them.

My rear set up is now Toytec Super Flex Coils w/ LC shocks off a 98 and sonoran steel extended bump stops. Man am I happy with the results! Way more travel and it rides great. Definitely recommend.

That is why it is important to test out the suspension flex. Especially when installing longer than stock shocks.

I don't think shortening the bumpstops will give you any usable flex at all. If anything, I would go as far as to say stock bumpstops are inadequate for your application. I have extended bump stops (SS 1.2) and can still flex to the point that the spring on the drooped side is ready to fall off the truck and the tire on the squish side is wedged into the quarter panel.

I see the idea you're going after, but in practice, I don't think its going to do you any good.

If you want more flex get the superflex coils or LC coils, then lengthen stops to eliminate over compression.

Well, thanks for all the info guys.... I think I will go ahead and get the super flex coils... Looks like I'll have to mess with the set up the hard but fun way.... Find some obstacle and flex the f out of it. My thoughts were to shorten the spring cone stops, and get longer frame mounted bump stops... I'll double check, but it sounds like I'll need the longer shocks for the super flex coils... I'm running the 5150s right now I believe (bistien rez shocks)

If you're going with the super flex coils, go ahead and get some Toyota LC rear shocks while your at it off a 98. They're a little pricey but it's been the best set up for me and another guy I know... If you swap them out sooner than later, you can probably still sell your 5150's while they're in good shape. Pulling the super flex coils in with the 5150's will end in an over extended and buster rear shock if you do any sort of moderate wheeling....
