Installed a '02 used 4WD trans into a '02 SR5 4WD Sport ED and the shift from 1st to 2nd is stretching to about 3100 rpm, any throttle. Reverse is delayed, sometimes it has to rev like a manual to move back. Fine is all other gears

Any insight will be helpful
I completely agree with above post. Slipping into reverse and late shifting are never good signs. All autos I've felt do this ended up completely failing eventually.

Not sure if you solved your problem but the kickdown cable is easily accessible with the trans pan removed. I dont think it can be removed otherwise without damage. It is common practice to cut the cable when pulling at a yard.

Pretty much figured bad trans. Was hoping for any last resort checks before I yank it out.

Between the late reverse engagement and delayed 1-2 hardshift I kinda lost hope on trans itself.

I did add a b&m oil cooler and new rad (bypass) on the install but back to trans hunting again

Are the solenoids able to be replaced? My son has a 2001 2WD 4 Runner with the tranny stuck in some higher gear. He limped it into a parts store. They read a fault code saying faulty transmission solenoid. A solenoid change-out would be relatively easy and affordable. Any insight is appreciated.

Fwiw.....I just installed a transmission from a 99 Limited into my 97 Limited. I had to use the transfer case from the 97 but it all seems to be doing fine.

Thanks. This gives me hope. I just picked up a 98 with a 00 engine and transmission. The transmission works fine but the theres no front driveshaft so I dont how the 4x4 does yet. The 98 is sr5 and the 00 transmission is limited... so I dont what issues I may run into with that as well. I'm looking into replacing my wiring harness because the one on it now looks rigged and very unprofessional.
