anybody ever mixed their own color plasti dip

Thinking about buying the mixing kit and trying to match Desert Dune. I'd like to put a thick coat of it over the pinch welds along the bottom of the truck for the upcoming winter to prevent road salt from getting at all of it. My truck is extremely rust free for a Midwest truck, so I want to keep it that way. Anybody have any insight on how it goes?

I have never mixed paint with plastidip but I have painted over it with some old spray paints I had in my shop. Dark colors worked fine and lighter colors may work as well I just haven't tried them yet.

for painting over the lighter colors, use white dip.

not sure if I was clear in my OP. Plasti dip now has a kit where you can mix different colors to match your paint. I'm not talking about using a black or white can and then painting over it.

I would think trying to mix those colors that I saw come with the kit to match your factory paint is going to be difficult. You may be able to get something close though.

My suggestion would be to get the white plasti dip like suggested above (I didn't know that was an option) and buy some color matched paint. If it's a small project there are a few companies on the internet that will put your color code in a spray can.

Other than that idk.

I thought about doing this to protect from road salt as well. The thing is, if the Plastidip peels then you have to re-do it because it will collect salt and defeat the purpose. I know this sounds like blasphemy on this forum, but I think putting the running boards on helps stop a lot of salt from getting into your door jamb area.

I don't get why you would want to use pasti dip for this application. There are some companies that will make desert dune spray paint. I would go this route. I wouldn't use plasti dip. Not nearly as durable and seems like a lot more work to use plasti dip too.

I don't want to paint my factory rockers, they're clean and I don't want to mess it up. I like the idea that it's removable. I don't care if I have to do it 2 or 3 times over the course of a winter, I have an entire service department full of lifts I have access to. I was thinking a really thick coat of plasti dip would offer nice protection and keep the elements out, sort of seal in the pinch welds and stuff. Then when spring comes, peel it off.
