Question Tires Reccomendation? Hankook OR Falken?

About to buy new rubber for my 02 TR4 Sport 2x2. Looking for something that looks chunky/rugged but will give me a nice ride on the road being that I live in South Florida and you have to drive 100 miles to get everywhere...

265/75/16 Hankook Dynapro ATM's, 8 ply

OR

265/75/16 Falken Wildpeak, 10 ply

Between these 2 as of now. They are coming in at about the same price. 150 approx each plus install. Not a bad price i think but cant decide. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks!

Go with the Hankooks solely for the 8 ply sidewall. It will be a better ride and less weight. Otherwise they are pretty similar tread and design.

PS, you have a 4x2, not a 2x2. A 2x2 would entail you were on a motorcyle with power to both wheels or popping wheelies in your 4runner all over the place...hahah

Thanks for the post. Im leaning towards the hankooks also! And yes 4x2 would be correct. No wheelie popping over here. HAHAH.

Before you order, think about how much you actually go off road. There are plenty of street tires out there that will hold up fine if you go off road once a year and will ride smoother.

You sure th Falkens are 10 ply? I have 285s and they are an 8ply D load. I love them. Are great as DD tire, quiet , good in the rain and snow and have gotten through everything I've put them through offroad. Plus they come with a 50k warranty, not sure of the Hankooks do.

I recently went with the Khumos (5k) and they're great. Very quiet on road and vaggressive AT design that looks great and should be great off road.

Check their performance at tirerack.com.

I know few friends who bought Korean/Taiwan tires. They looks good but no good on wet roads. Why don't you try Cooper tires. They are made in the US and good at wet roads too.

A friend of mine got hankook in his lexus and he tells me when he do cornering at high speeds on wet roads the traction control light comes on and after switching to cooper tires he don't see it.

I will not be going off road much at all if any time ever. Just wanted something that looked good and rugged but not to loud and ruff on the road. Any suggestions on the tire I mentioned or others you know of. Thanks for your post!

That's what the tire shop told me. Could be incorrect. Wouldn't be surprised.... I will double check. Thanks for the heads up and the recommendation on the tires. I will consider the falken's.

Your friend shouldn't be doing high speed cornering on wet roads. When those Coopers wear down like I'm sure his Hankook's were, he'll be back to the same issue. The simple fix there is to just not drive like an a-hole.

OP, I had Hankook DynaPro ATM's on one of my 4Runners, they were great. Never had the Falkens but others speak highly of them as they do about the Coopers. I just put a set of Firestone Destination AT's on this 4Runner, so far they're great. And within your price point.

Well I've had both tires, I ran the dyna pro in 265/75-16 now I'm running the falkens in 285/75-16. The hankooks rode much better, cleaned out really good and had grwat snow traction. I would highly recommend them. Would go back to them but moving to a mt tire next. The falkens do good in sand and clay but kids suck in mud. I got around haspin acres when it down poored for two days straight but my locker did most of the work. Good luck either way.

When I was looking for tires, I found the Hankooks had really good reviews. I woulda pulled the trigger on them, but went GY Duratracs in the end. The Hankooks are def more cost effective tho.

I had the Hankooks for a couple years and while they weren't bad by ANY means, I was kinda disappointed in their snow/rain traction. They look great though and are as good or better as anything else I've ever driven.
