Exclamation 1998 Toyota 4runner limited alarm system light is broken

I have a toyota 4runner limited 4X4. I have been turning the key and pushing in the alarm system light in at the same time. But now I can't do anything with that truck because of the alarm system. Please help me!

What? There is no factory alarm button that needs to be pushed when starting the truck. Are you talking about the sensor near the e-brake? That's a glass breaking sensor, and probably doesn't even work anyways.

Toyota only put passive alarms in 4runners. So if your truck won't start because of an alarm issue, it's not factory and unless you can figure out what alarm and where it's at, I doubt anyone can really help you. You need to provide more info as to what's going on.

It'll be an aftermarket alarm.
Post a pic of the button that you push.

Usually, if your pushing a button while turning the key, your putting the car into valet mode.

Other option, find the alarm brain unit either under the seats, behind glove box or behind front seat kick panels and just unplug it.

That's the factory stuff. You have an aftermarket alarm. Mine is buried under the steering column, and the brain box is located to the left of the brake pedal, tucked way up there.

OP,

Post a picture of the button you are pushing when trying to start the car.

If it is an aftermarket alarm then the starter kill is active and not allowing the starter to engage, and simply unhooking the brain, most of the time, will not solve the problem. You will have to drop the drivers side dash and look near the ignition key cylinder/ or stering column. Depending on the year of your Runner The starter wire will be 96- Black with silver dots, 97-98- Black, 99- Green with black stripe (or solid Green), 00-02- Green with Black stripe.
This wire will be cut in half with both wires going into a relay (usually tied to something under the dash near the stering column) If you see this then simply cut both starter wires off the relay (key side and starter side) and attach them back together and eliminate the relay. At this point when you crank the key the power from the starter will free flow to the starter instead of going through the relay.
Hopefully this was helpful.

I was just going to post this evening to ask about installing some type of alarm (and maybe keyless entry) on my '96 4Runner, so thanks for posting this!

your in luck as my password and login works from my home computer. Here is basic radio and alarm info for the 96 T4R. They do not designate different trim as SR5 and limited are wired essentially the same.
Being yours is stick, remote start is not recomended because you would need to bypass the clutch to start, but all other alarm and keyless featres should work fine.
Good Luck!

And I also found this one. I use both and physically check and test all wires before connecting to them.
