Which fluids for transfer case, front/rear diff change?
99 V6 runner, 4x4
I plan on doing a change/flush to front, rear differential and transfer case this weekend. I found a great post from 2006 with lots of great information.
4Runners.org - Changing Your Front, Rear, Tranny & Transfer Case Fluids
but I'm wondering which fluids to use amsoil, mobil1 synth, or is there something else recommended?
Thanks guys!
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

I personally used mobil 1 synthetic in all of mine,
changing the front soon with Lucas, just cause i have to replace a seal and the lucas was on sale.

How many miles do you have? Are you 'converting' to synthetic or already have it? I've read some negative things about 'converting' to synthetic for T-Case/Diff fluids (As well as Motor oil) if you're engine/tranny/diffs have always had conventional oil...

bought the truck with 168,000. carfax reads that rear differential was serviced, front diff flushed and changed, transfer case flushed and changed at 165,959 by toyota.
the truck just hit 200,000. I'm not sure what fluids were previously used by toyota. would they use synthetic at 165,959?
When i purchased I changed the engine oil with synthetic and was planning on the rest with synth as well.
can it destroy anything?

I used Amsoil. Next time I'll go with something cheaper. Amsoil is too $$$.

Many people use the 75w-90 in both without issues.

Royal Purple. Came very highly recommended. Only been in there for two days. Cost a bit. We'll see how it goes but I shouldn't need to do this for a long while, so the extra money is out in the wash.

I switched over to Royal Purple Synchromax. Man Trans, Transfer, both diffs...
I could seriously hear the difference and feel it in the shifter!
I've been using Royal Purple for years now in all my vehicles...

I use Amsoil.
Price isn't that bad considering gear lube last for 75-100,000 miles unless you are doing a lot of towing.
Redline is also good.
But whatever you change it with I would go with a 100% synthetic for sure.

Another vote for royal purple. It's pricey but I like the peace of mind. My dad said, buy quality and only cry once.

I used Mobil 1 Synthetic in all mine yes.
Also 75W-90
i may have put 80-90 in the back but I dont think it would matter.
you will need about 5 quarts to do it all.
also go get new crush washers, I think I bought all of them for about $10. and I still have one left over I dont know where it goes
but you can do them all for $60 with the washers, especially if you have advance auto and you go online and get he coupon for $10 off $50 or whatever it is right now.

Redline Shockproof Heavy Duty. Threw it in with my lockright over a thousand miles ago and its been awesome ever since. I've had maybe two of the loud pops described and the ratcheting cant be heard unless the rear windows are down. Thats quiet enough for me
