Does anyone know if I can buy the part from the 98 and put it on my 95?
Thanks for this. I need to check it on my 4runner. Living the cable has worked well so far but is a band aid.

WD-40 was developed by the military in the 50s as a rust preventative solvent and de-greaser to protect missile parts and while true it will work for greasing things like hinges and toys but for something that sees constant actuation like a throttle cable i would use a proper lube, as it will de-grease whatever lubricant you currently have on there and leave it bone dry......

i don't even use wd-40 for anything anymore, simple green for cleaning, a good penetrating oil for stuck parts and a variety of greases and sprays for lubrication, this stuff is often over looked but using the right grease for the right part can save you some serious cash in the long run, not necessarily here with this cable, but generally speaking.
I've had good luck with PB Blaster products. I used their multi purpose lube on allot of stuff but they also have a great selection of other types of lube.

Pb blaster isn't bad but both wd-40 and PB blaster are penetrating oils, use a white lithium grease version. I used the wd-40 white lithium grease on my 1995 cable that isn't really for this car but is the only replacement I could find. (Let me know if you need the part number, you will need to drill the firewall if going to use it.) I 3D modeled a replacement to the rubber bushing that seems to always blow up or split (I can send the model files too if you want to print it and the specs and other equipment needed). If your throttle pedal is stiff though this isn't a hard fix and seems to be common on these cars. Simply unhook throttle cable from the throttle body and get it as straight as possible (doesn't need to be taken off of the pedal or firewall) if u can angle it to let gravity feed the lube then it's a little easier. Get some white lithium grease or another kind of lubricant, pull cable too you, spray cable and inside the sleeve. Next work the cable back and forth in the sleeve and repeat until you feel comfortable. Must I add this doesn't immediately fix it you will need to drive it and wait, but the more you work it and more lube you put the faster and better it should work.

I'd say just buy a new cable and be done with it. My cable was getting horrendous on my 2000 even though it had felt stiff the whole time I've had it since 2018. About 4 or 5 months ago I bought a new cable from McGeorge, and it should have been one of the first things I did 5 years ago. It drives like a completely different vehicle with the new cable. Personally, I wouldn't recommend lubing a worn out cable. Just replace and you'll be glad you did every second you drive it.

The cable care kit with a bit of effort can work most cases, a new cable is a instant fix.
Pick a weekend couple days for job. Disconnect cable from TB and all clips to firewall hang it from hood, chit flows down.
Spray Lube let soak work pedal rinse and repeat till cable moves freely or not. @flyswatter_studio said it first.
