Head gasket issue? Other possibilities?

Hello,

Thinking I have the dreaded head gasket issue. My main symptom is white smoke for approx 2 mins after starting and 'sweet' smell. However:

-oil cap and dipstick show fine.
-no loss of coolant; plastic resevoir hasn't changed
-when cap is off rad, coolant flows over after engine is warm, but does not bubble
-no change in thermostat gauge

Compression test from 6 months ago was:

Cylinder 1 2 3 4

DRY 165 120 165 165
WET 195 165 210 190

Aside from the carbon testing in coolant, is there anything else I can check?

Any insight appreciated. Thanks!!

Try a leak down test, that could help you pinpoint where you are losing compression on #2. You still have good compression, so it could be a very small leak that you wouldn't see right away on the dipstick or in the coolant reservoir. Good luck

I'm guessing you either have bad valve seals or bad piston rings on #2. That's quite aways off from your other cylinders.
