97 4runner vs 99 4runner sr5 models

been my desire for far far too long
to purchase a 3rd gen 4runner..

..the wait is over..
time to pull the trigger..

long story short: looking at both
a 97 & 99 sr5 model 4runner
both have 160k..
..yet there is roughly $1200 difference in price..
97 of course is the cheaper one..

is spending the extra $1200 worth
it to gain the extra 2 years..
..are 99's far better then 97's?
is the gas mileage slightly better?
are the upgraded cup holders so much better..
..nevermind that..
just looking for solid insight to
why i should get a 99 vs a 97..

thanks in advance for the responses..

..cahil

I have owned both. The only difference really is the cupholders, larger cargo box in the back, and slightly updated headlights/grill/bumper. Other than that, it's the exact same truck. Same motor, same trans, same MPG, everything that matters is the same.

The cupholders are 100% worth having, but you can do that yourself for $30 by digging through the junkyard and doing the cupholder swap. Not worth $1200

I would get whichever one has the best maintenance records and cleanest body/undercarriage.

X2. Go for the clean and better maintained truck.
