5VZFE Bosch Premium Oil Filter Parts Compatibility (and using an Oversized filter)

Walmart Canada recently had on sale the Bosch Premium oil filters, so I picked up a couple for my 4Runner and two Fords that my parents own.

The correct filter for the 5VZFE Toyota 4Runner is the 3330, but some Googling shows that some people use the 3422 as an oversized filter on their Toyotas (not just the 4Runner).

I am wondering if anyone has experience with running an oversized oil filter on their 5VZFE? Can it cause any harm? I figure the benefit of an oversized filter would be increased efficiency due to more filter area and lower pressure restriction.

Coincidentally, the 3422 is also used on both my parents' Fords, so another advantage for me is that I only have to stock up on one kind of filter.

Thoughts?

Plenty of people have used over-sized oil filters from numerous brands with no adverse affects. Off the top of my head, the Toyota 90915-YZZD3 filter from the Land Cruiser 4.7 and the Wix 1516 meant for a Ford V6.

I always get the oversized filters. I've heard though if you do the big alternator upgrade they may not fit.

I've used the NAPA 1516 for the past 5 years. It's given very good UOA's from Blackstone at a 7500 mi. OCI with SuperTech synthetic.

The PL20195 crosses to a motorcraft FL400S

I use the motorcraft as a larger filter on my S series Saturn. Its nice to know I can do the same with the 3.4l too.

I like using Baldwin Oilfilter website as a crossreference........

All the non-toyota brand filters listed are 8psid internal bypass.......which seems common with american vehicles.

The Toyota 90915-20002 crosses to a B1405 filter with 20psid internal bypass.
The Toyota 90915-YZZD3 crosses to a B7020 filter with 14psid internal bypass.
The Toyota 90915-YZZD1 crosses to a BT223 filter with 8psid internal bypass and also crosses to a toyota 15601-1305

Seeing these specs I do not think I'm happy using any autoparts house filter rated with the 8psid internal bypass.

Its interesting that the larger YZZD3 filter is 14psid. Is it a advocated filter replacement for the 5vz?

I am really thinking on going to the dealer and just getting to 20002 and removing the one i have on now with the 8psid internal bypass

I found specs for the PureOne 10241 and 20195.

PL20195
O.D. 2.98
Height 4.74
Thread Pitch UNF-2B
Threads 3/4-16
Relief Valve P.S.I. 12-15

PL10241
O.D. 2.98
Height 3.36
Thread Pitch UNF-2B
Threads 3/4-16
Relief Valve P.S.I. 12-17

The larger toyota filter YZZD3 falls in the middle as per Baldwins spesc for their replacement filter.
