Hood mounted lights?
Is there anyway to mount lights on the hood in front of the bottom corners of the windshield? I'd really like to put them there because that's what I've always done on other vehicles and I feel like it's the best angle. I dunno, either way I want to mount lights, preferably on the hood. If this is possible, some info would be much appreciated.

There was a build thread done on this where a few guys fabbed up some nice brackets a few weeks ago. I can't link it using tapatalk right now but search " I need some creative thinkers" or something to that effect. Maybe
@ GottaBeTRD
will chime in here with the link....

so ask any j**p guys who actually use their j**p off road, or off road racers/pros, and they will all tell you that there are better places for lights, and infact, this is one of the worse spots for lights. reason being the light is so close to you eye(in a close parallel proximity) that the reflections and or glare created can in some cases make vision worse... examples of when this might happen include, dusty conditions -dirt roads, forest service roads, trails ect. foggy conditions. rain or snow. and even clear hwy driving(given you are useing them responsibly and not having them on while oncoming vehicles or other vehicles in general are on the road in the same area as you) as they can light up the road and hwy signs(typically they are coated with a highly reflective coating to increase visibility) and they will bounce the light back at you blinding you.
i have experiances this with my lights ontop of my ARB bumper at night, on the hwy. there is a reason why auto manufactures place their fog lights as low and as far out from the driver as possible. its to reduce possible glare -this is also the main reason that projector lamps were invented and implemented into automobiles. think of it like a camera, the farther away the flash is from the lens the less "red-eye" you will have in your picture, this is why most professional photographers either use remote flashes(often times on stands else where) or will bounce light of something else like say a wall or a ceiling or reflector ect to get the light onto the subject.
most j**p owners i know who have lights there never use them other than for driving lights during the day off road because they are basically useless 70% of the time.
dont get me wrong i think the CBI mount with a dually looks sweet, but thats about it imo

I have a jeep with lights on the hood (and I use the jeep and the hood-mounted lights often). I'm used to the position and aware of other options that I have. In my opinion I prefer them to be at eye-level. The glare and reflection aren't a big issue to me. I also don't have a bumper to mount them on easily. I like them higher but not too high that they look like Mickey Mouse ears, cause that's what I always think of. Plus the hood mount is better for wind drag. I might be young, but I know what I'm doing. Thank you for your input though, I'm not disregarding that. I asked for info and I got some from several people. Thank you all.

I looked them up and they look great, I'll definitely order some when I have $50 to spare. I just dropped $350 on a 62" roof basket and some 4" Hellas (that will go on the rack until I get those CBI mounts) so I'm kinda out of a 4R budget for a couple weeks. If someone else orders them before I do, I want to see some pictures and hear what they're like.

I still have yet to really test mine out offroad. I have the Rigid spots on my hood and yes they are useless in dusty, foggy, snowy, and prob rainy conditions. I know for sure in the dusty conditions they suck, the others i'm just assuming they are bad because of what you said.
Anyway they are nice if you are in front of the trail, (if there are mountains and canyons in front) I tested them out on an open highway and honestly my Bi-xenon Projectors got the job done. These Rigid spots just kinda lit up signs way up in front. I couldn't see anything else past my hi-beams.
the glare on the hood is minimal with the spots, except when my hood was covered in dust, then you can see quite a bit more but it's not blinding, or annoying.

I have some close ups of the CBI mounts sent to me by a buddy that had stopped by there but was told not to posed pics because they're still prototype. They look pretty sick.
