Starting problem
I have an intermittent problem with starting my 98 SR5 V6 automatic. There is no rhyme or reason that it happens, is not repeatable, happens perhaps 15% of the time that I start the truck. So, when I turn the key, I get 1 click, no turning of the starter. I can do this over and over, and will get the same result. As soon as I turn the steering wheel, even a quarter inch (basically removing the tension off the steering wheel lock position), it starts right up. I do not have to hold the steering wheel off of the lock position, I can turn it and let it "snap back" and it will still start. I just have to move the steering wheel. Once I do this, it starts without fail on the first turn of the key. Otherwise, I have absolutely no starting issues. I have never been left stranded by it not starting, but If it is a problem that will escalate, I want to solve it before it does leave me stranded. Hope this is enough detail to explain the problem, and thanks in advance. On a side note, My last visit to the site officially logged in was over 9 years ago, with 1,443,157 new posts.
