Rear Hatch Issues

I'm having a slight problem with the rear hatch "latch". It closes and stays closed fine, but the "door open" light stays on. And stays on 24/7. Is there any kind of override for this light? Or a trigger I can tape down similar to normal doors? I can't seem I find anything to keep the light off.

On a side note, the previous owner tried to replace the latch on the actual door and broke off two of the bolts holding it on. This is causing the door to think it is open. Other than the light staying on, its functional though. Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the delayed response. Been a busy weekend. I'd does have an after market alarm. But when I "wiggle" the rear hatch, the light on the dash goes off. So its def in the latch/hatch. I'd really like to just override it somehow if possible.

There is a wire in the latch that tells the sensor whether the door is open/closed.

If you already know that the latch is loose and causing the light on, then what really is your question? since it's just a switch, you can always just cut the wires and connect them to short it out, or add a jumper or something like that (Or if it's a normally closed switch, just cut the wires to open it up).

@Mauzer .....this may be the ticket. I'm not very electrically inclined though. I'll sure see if I can work with the diagram, thanks.
@Nelson .....I know the problem. But as stated, the previous owner really jacked it up by breaking those bolts off in the hatch. So to get those out and truly fix it, will take a little more time and special tooling than I have at the moment. I'm mainly concerned about the battery drain that little light is using. So I'm looking for a quick fix so to speak until I can fix it correctly.

Also, are those wires in the diagram in the hatch itself? Thanks all....
